    1. Haven't read it yet, but the first graphic could just demonstrate the selection between those who seek various degrees. It does not imply that for a given individual, completion of a Bachelor's degree increases his or her expected annual earnings.

    2. Haven't read it yet, but I took him for Macro (macro? maybe...) in college.

  1. From the Star Tribune-

"(Capps is) available [Thursday]," Gardenhire said. "I think he bit the end of the [bullpen] phone off when we said you're not going in the game tonight, so he's available."

No, it was because Carroll stole his Rice Krispy bar and ate it. Probably thought the phone was a piece of licorice or something.

    1. damn you, chief. when i saw this post in the sidebar, i thought that meant available on the trade market.

  2. Position player round-up:

    C: Mauer, Butera
    1B: Morneau, (Mauer)
    2B: Casilla, (Carroll, Plouffe)
    SS: Dozier, (Carroll, Plouffe)
    3B: Carroll, (Casilla?, Plouffe?)
    LF: Willingham
    CF: Revere
    RF: Plouffe

    Spare outfielders: Komatsu, Mastroianni

    Injured-but-active outfielders: Span

Losing Doumit really makes having 12 position players harder, since he provided an option at C, 1B, and RF. With Span unavailable, and having to put someone at DH (which looks like it'll either be someone unqualified to DH, or Mauer--in which case they could potentially lose the DH), there will be two players available on the bench. Maybe Willingham will DH some with all of these outfielders up? There really ought to be some better spare parts available.

    1. But we didn't lose Donut. Injured-but-active

    2. Twins change their minds, Blackburn to DL, Doumit remains active. So, Twins go to 12 pitchers, but Span and Doumit are on the bench today with injuries:

      JoeChristensen ‏@JoeCStrib
      #Twins vs. Fister: Revere 8, Dozier 6, Mauer 3, Willingham 7, Morneau DH, Plouffe 9, Casilla 4, Butera 2, Carroll 5 (Walters P)

        1. Wrong! He'll sit out for ten days, Gardy will put him in as a PH for Butters, then he'll say that as it seems to be worse he needs to go DL.
          So no retroactivity available!

  3. Sano in the spotlight.

"The attention he's getting is similar to what some of the Packers get," said Snappers director of media & community relations Chrissy Scaffidi, who worked with the Green Bay Packers last season. "It's exciting. We get national media attention because he is a top prospect.

"Miguel is just a kid at heart. He goofs around, but when he does interviews, he's all business. He's completely professional. You would never guess he's the top prospect. He's very humble," Scaffidi added. "Even though he has a film crew following him around, he just acts the same as everybody else. He says and does want he wants, he has fun, he even has fun with them."

    1. He says and does want he wants, he has fun, he even has fun with them.
Uh oh. That sounds like he has too much personality.

  4. Thank you all for the computer advice. Tonight, I’ll try booting from an Ubuntu disc and I then hope to move everything to my newly-purchased 1Tb external HD.

If that doesn’t work, I’m going to need some help. I do not have a second PC with which to move the HD into to attempt a master/slave thing. Nor do I feel comfortable opening computers up and taking them apart.

Twayn, I sent an e-mail to your published yahoo address: I may want to take you up on your generous offer of a house call.

    1. No joke, that happened to me when I was 14-15. You know how every team has that one goon that hit puberty around 9? Well, the other team had that kid pitching. He was easily the size of a varsity player (skill-wise not so much). I took a fastball to the left ulna. It left the imprint of the stitches in my skin and bruised like a mofo. It resulted in a very slight hairline fracture. It wasn't bad enough to cast, just had to sit out a week or two.

I was honestly never the same hitter after that (not that I was much of one to begin with). Anything even remotely inside had me bailing immediately. Then once the curveball came into play, it was the end of my career. On more than one occasion, I ran like a baby, only for the ball to break over the plate for a strike.

  5. I drove down to Anaheim to catch the afternoon tilt between the sox and laaaaaaaaa, and some random dude gave me a ticket at Starbucks. I see that decent seats are selling for 40 cents on stubhub.

    1. Call me crazy, but it seems incredibly naive to assume that the NFL would launch into this without having their asses covered. Vilma will lose.

  6. 3 episode of 'Community' tonight (7, 8, 8:30 Central) to wrap up the season. Changarific!

  7. I have now had all 4 of the regular Surly types. I would rank them as follows: Bender>>>>>>>>>Furious>Cynic Ale>>Coffee Bender. Is this the general consensus?

    1. General consensus is that those first two are the "best". Of course, if you're a hop head, Furious is the best - if you prefer malts, then it's Bender. Personally, I like the Furious better but would never turn down an occassional Bender. I only drink the Coffee Bender for breakfast and I don't care for the Cynic all that much.

      1. I've only had the Furious and the Cynic. I'm a hop-head, so Furious is fab as far as I'm concerned.

      1. Every time I read nibbish talking about this beer I think that he should suck it bite my shiny metal ass.

      1. Are we still emoticon-ing? I would give this like a thumbs up emoticon.

As much as I hated the Pacers based on that one game against the Wolves where they acted like douches, there's always Dwayne Wade to make me forget about that.

  8. A couple of young girls were run from the stadium apparently for underage drinking. I've never before seen security checking IDs in the stands.
