ROCHESTER 4, LOUISVILLE 1 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starsWilkin Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Ben Revere was 2-for-4.

Pitching starsJeff Manship worked five shutout innings, giving up three hits and three walks.  Lester Oliveros struck our four in three shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Felix Perez was 2-for-3.  Carlos Fisher pitched three shutout innings.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Leading 1-0, the Red Wings struck for three.  An RBI single by Pedro Florimon and a two run double by Ramirez drove in the runs.

Other:  Red Wings mascot Spikes will be rappelling twenty-one stories down a building to raise money for scouting programs in Rochester.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 3, NEW BRITAIN 0 IN NEW BRITAIN (GAME 1—SCHEDULED SEVEN INNINGS)

Batting starChris Herrmann hit a double.

Pitching starBlake Martin allowed one hit in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Mark Sobolewski was 2-for-4 with a home run.  John Tolisano was 2-for-3 with a triple.  Brett Cecil worked five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Key inning:  The fourth.  With the Fisher Cats leading 1-0, Sobolewski and Mike McDade led off the inning with back-to-back homers.

Other:  The Rock Cats had only two hits in the game.

NEW BRITAIN 6, NEW HAMPSHIRE 3 IN NEW BRITAIN (GAME 2—SCHEDULED SEVEN INNINGS)

Batting starEstarlin De Los Santos was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, driving in three.

Pitching starDaniel Turpen pitched a scoreless inning, walking one.

Opposition stars:  John Tolisano was 2-for-3 with a double.  Fernando Hernandez worked two shutout innings.

Key inning:  The sixth.  In a 3-3 tie, Matt Rizzotti doubled and Deibinson Romero walked.  An error plated one run, a wild pitch scored another, and a sacrifice fly completed the three-run rally.

OtherLogan Darnell struck out eight in six innings.  Each team had five hits.

CHARLOTTE 3, FORT MYERS 1 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starsAngel Morales was 2-for-4.  Daniel Ortiz and Daniel Santana were each 2-for-5.

Pitching starEdgar Ibarra pitched three shutout innings, allowing two hits.

Opposition stars:  Robbie Estrada was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run.  Albert Suarez allowed only an unearned run in six innings.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Trailing 3-1 with one out, three singles loaded the bases for the Miracle.  The threat went for nothing, however, as the next two batters flied out.  Fort Myers never got a man as far as third base again.

BELOIT 4,QUAD CITIES 2 IN BELOIT

Batting starsMatthew Koch hit a three run homer, his first.  Adam Pettersen also hit his first homer of the season.

Pitching starsJason Wheeler went six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and no walks.  David Hurlbut worked two perfect innings of relief.

Opposition stars:  Juan Castillo was 2-for-4 with a double.  Kyle Hald struck out five in six shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Trailing 2-0, Adam Bryant and Jonathan Goncalves opened the inning for the Snappers with back-to-back walks.  With one out, Koch hit a three-run homer to give Beloit the lead.

  1. I'm leaving early this morning to go to a retreat at a church camp for a couple of days. Assuming I have time and internet access, this feature will continue as if nothing has happened. If not, it will resume when I get back.
