Minor Details: Games of 5/28

Bunts key rallies for the Rock Cats and the Snappers.  Four New Britain pitchers combine for a shutout.  The Twins should've kept Terry Doyle.

CHARLOTTE 4, ROCHESTER 1 IN CHARLOTTE

Batting starPedro Florimon hit a home run in the ninth.

Pitching starsLester Oliveros struck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits but no walks.  Anthony Slama struck out the side his only inning.

Opposition stars:  Tyler Kuhn and Dan Johnson were each 2-for-4.  Terry Doyle allowed just on hit in 7.1 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Already leading 2-0, the Knights used three singles and a double to score two more and put the game out of reach.

Other:  Doyle had a no-hitter through 7.1 innings.  Matt Carson broke it up with a double and Doyle was immediately removed, having thrown only 82 pitches.

NEW BRITAIN 3, PORTLAND 0 IN PORTLAND

Batting starAaron Hicks was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Chris Colabello hit a two run homer.

Pitching starsBrett Jacobson, making a spot start, went four innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Blake Martin struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing two hits.  Caleb Thielbar struck out two in two perfect innings.

Opposition star:  Brock Huntzinger worked three perfect innings of relief.

Key inning:  The third.  In a scoreless tie with one out, Shawn Roof tried to bunt for a hit and was thrown out.  Rene Tosoni then doubled and scored on an Aaron Hicks single.  Chris Colabello followed with a two run homer to give the Rock Cats a 3-0 lead.  So, we once again see that the bunt was the key to a rally.

BELOIT 15, KANE COUNTY 9 IN KANE COUNTY (12 INNINGS)

Batting starsMatthew Koch was 3-for-6 with two doubles.  Adam Pettersen was 3-for-7 with a triple.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-6 with a double and drove in five.

Pitching starCorey Williams struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Orlando Calixte was 4-for-7 with a triple and a home run, driving in three.  Michael Antonio was 4-for-7 with a double, scoring three times.  Kenny Swab was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a sacrifice fly.

Key inning:  The twelfth.  With the score tied at nine, Jonathan Goncalves walked and took second on a sacrifice bunt.  A double and three singles then scored two and loaded the bases.  A sacrifice fly plated another run, and Miguel Sano hit his twelfth homer of the season to put the game out of reach.  So, we once again see that the bunt was the key to a rally.
