Pixel Perfect Memories: Tron

Release Date: 1982
Platform: Arcade
Developer: Bally Midway

As I mentioned here last month, I found this game at the Pinball Hall of Fame.  I remember playing this a lot when my family was holed up at a Sheraton hotel for a week when I was six.  We had a house fire and the insurance company was putting us up there.  And we got plenty of quarters.  My brother and I played this one probably more than any other (though Hogan's Alley made a run for the top spot).

It's hard to explain this game for those who haven't seen or seen the movie, but I was surprising to find it holds up pretty well today yet.  Scenes from the movie are emulated the best they can, including entering the Input/Output tower, Tron's battle against the MCP, and the light cycles.  The graphics are solid and the sounds are pretty impressive as well.  In fact, one magazine awarded Tron the best coin-op game of 1982.

If you ever find yourself in an arcade that has this game, I highly recommend giving it a quarter or seven.

So whatch'all playing?

  1. Popped in Arkham Asylum yesterday. Only played for about 1/2 hour, but did like it for what I've played so far.

Trying to get a platinum trophy in Infamous. No other reason other than a friend recently platinumed it, and I can't let him have it and not me.

Was playing Red Dead Redemption. Haven't put it in for a while. Got to Mexico. Still wanting to play it through. Fun game.

With Diablo III out, I've been entertaining the idea of getting a new computer, one that can actually run the game. However, I don't think I can justify the cost. So I went on Steam to look for some other games I could play. Found one called Torchlight that is practically a Diablo rip-off. Thinking about getting that instead at a considerable discount.

And for the first time in months I finally played MW3 multiplayer. After playing the snot out of Black Ops MP, I have barely touched MW3. Lately, I've been getting more enjoyment out of playing the survival spec ops missions with friends. Although I'd much rather play nearly anything else.

    1. I'm not sure how much Torchlight is right now on Steam, but if you preorder Torchlight 2 for $19.99 you can get both games, or if you wait a few weeks it'll probably be very cheap in the Summer Sale.

  2. I have been playing Diablo III. A lot.

And punman, are you sure that your computer can't play it? It doesn't take all that much. I mean I only have a macbook air and it plays fine (although I do have to put all of the graphics settings on the bare minimum).

  3. I ended my Gamefly subscription after two years. Found myself not having enough time to play (I will have 75 more minutes than usual this week). Anyway, they sell used games for cheap with free shipping so I bought 10 of them figuring that would last me a few years.

First game I popped in was Halo-HD. Not quite as impressed with the graphics upgrade as I thought I would be. Still, I'm a sucker when it comes to nostalgia for games and this one hits the sweet spot.

    1. I actually just started up the Halo remake a week or two ago. It was pretty darn fun, but yeah, I wasn't as blown away as I had expected.

      1. I let my XBOX gold subscription expire after something like 5 years. Kind of a bummer. Lots of hours of HALO on there.

  4. I beat Super Mario Galaxy, and then gave up on doing all of the extra stuff, since I'd done it all once before. Probably ready to sell that game.

I just borrowed NBA Jam for the Wii from a relative. There's some nostalgia for ya... haven't played it yet. Likely won't until Thursday or Friday.

  5. I just fairly recently finished Mass Effect 3. I didn't nerd-rage at the ending like the internets did, but yeah, it was a bit of a let down. Still, I had 100+ hours spread over three games of a decent story that I got invested in, so I wasn't disappointed in the grand scheme of things.

I think my next thing is either to start the Dead Space series, jump back into Bioshock or maybe start the Gears of War series. I haven't really decided yet. Really, I should probably just finish Skyrim.

    1. I should probably just finish Skyrim.

This is a sentence. I recognize the structure and all of the words, yet it doesn't make any sense to me.

    2. I'm about 10 hours into Skyrim. I want to play it, but just can't seem to find the time.

  6. I haven't played many games at all over the past few months. I'm slogging my way through the third Professor Layton game, but it's easily the most pedantic of them.

I'm currently finishing the co-op segment of Portal 2 with my brother, but it's hard for us to find time where both our computers are in sync. It's a blast, anyway.

  7. I've been playing a lot of stuff lately (Halo re-make, The Witcher 2, Max Payne 3, Mario Tennis Open, Akai Katana), but I haven't really dug into anything too extensively. I've played a crapload of Trials Evolution, though. The game is fantastic. I dusted off my Wii and started playing through Super Mario Bros. 3 on the Super Mario All Stars disc this weekend. That's been fun. I'm thinking when the Twins game inevitably makes me angry tonight I'll play Rhythm Heaven Fever.

E3 is next week which should be really exciting. I'm eagerly anticipating the full Wii U reveal. Also next week Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown goes up on XBLA. Definitely buying that ASAP.

  8. I really haven't played much of anything. I'm on the final boss on Super Meat Boy (but not the final final boss - the one that requires a person to complete all the dark world stuff, that one will take some time)

Started up Breath of Death VII: The Beginning again after my friend accidentally wiped my save file. It's still a fun retro NES-ish RPG.
