Game 94: Twins @ Royals

Diamond (8-3, 2.96 ERA) vs. Mendoza (3-6, 4.32 ERA)

The sparkle has faded ever so slightly from Diamond, but he's still been far and away the best starter we've had. Even a slightly scuffed up Diamond is worth more than a Blackburn.

Besides. The Royals only managed one run in seven innings against the guy who was on pace to have the worst ERA+ ever. Diamond has to pitch a good 8 hitless innings, right?

    1. Did you mean Trout? Because I know Trumbo isn't a rookie and Trout has been better and probably is the MVP right now let alone ROY.

  1. That is some incredibly pathetic facial hair on papelboner. 10th inning, first and third and no outs for the giants.

  2. Blanco up. He just swung at ball four on a 3-0.
Bunt! Run scores and blanco beats it out.

      1. St. Paul Gophers. Unfortunately, Casilla is playing more like a Minnesota Goofer.

          1. Really wish they'd get helmets that match. I know they didn't have helmets when Bob was making his Cigars, but helmets that go with the caps would be nice. They did this for the Millers-clad game.

  3. Ooh. Slidet in the dirt for a K. Jimmy rollins is philly's last chance.

Also, Mitch Williams is a kick in the booth.

    1. Well, Diamond continues to get ground balls. He fits the mold for a pitcher with a low K rate that can still succeed: Very low walk rate, lots of ground balls and left-handed. He also seems to field his position and hold runners well, as well.

  4. Let's see, we have almost no offense and no bench, so let's make errors with men on base. That's a good plan.

  5. I am enjoying a tasty and refreshing banana-mocha sorbet made in my Vitamix. Not bad, but I definitely need to pay more attention to the recipes. Needs more sugar and, perhaps, more dairy, to get the right texture.

    1. Yeah, I'm enjoying (possibly) my last free weekend in forever by having a g n t, and getting ready for the Krewe of Chewbaccus alien beach party at Tipitina's tonight.

    2. I'm enjoying a Grain Belt and have already enjoyed a Bengali Tiger from Six Point. I also have a Gueze waiting for later after we have coxinha.

      1. How is that Bengali Tiger? I've been seeing it available around these parts more often lately. I see the bros. are mighty high on it.

        1. I've been seeing it around a lot too and finally gave in. Its fantastic. Its got a great, resinous hOp flavor going on, and liberally makes use of citrus tasting hops. I say you should totally try it.

    3. Due to poor planning on my part, I got the last sixer of this off the shelf at my local (see: ghetto) proprietor of liquid refreshment. Not only was I surprised at their selection - expected more of this - but they also had gentleman at the counter who'd spent the last 3 years working for these guys. I suspect he had something to do with the selection...and I was grateful for it.

      1. I got a 12-pack of that myself. I only had one and it hadn't yet chilled. What are your thoughts? I'll have another 1 or 2 on Sunday to be sure.

I also got a 4-pack of Lienie's Big Eddy Imperial IPA, which I found to be a credible take on the style (I liked it a lot and would drinky copious amounts if it cost less).

        1. @ AMR - I enjoyed the Emerald quite a bit - malty and the rye adds a nice spice - the hops seemed fruity rather than citrus/piney (which I don't mind but enjoyed the variety). It had a pretty smooth finish, gorgeous red color, decent head for a lager and I didn't want the glass to be empty. I'd say 2 thumbs up.

  6. I wonder how much money Wisconsin Dells pays FSN to do the pre/post game show from there and in game promos.

I have never been to the Dells, and really have no inclination to go.

    1. My wife is from there and so I've been many times. Your instinct is extremely correct.

  7. Oh joy. Two outs and no one on base for the Twins. Stop me if you've heard this before the last couple days.

      1. in 2001, he batted 3rd 95 times, 5th 27 times, and a few other assorted.
        in 2002, 64 games batting 3rd, 61 batting 6th
        2003, 60 3rd, 38 6th, 21 5th, 12 second

  8. If black bats were actually beneficial to players wouldn't every player use one?

    Myth: Busted

    1. what is it about this pitcher that the Twins cant seem to get a halfway decent hit off of him. Last game he went 8 innings and the twins only scored 5 hits off of him

  9. Hi guys. I hate to do this, but I have to ask for a pinch hitter again for Monday's game log. I had a little heart attack this morning and had an angioplasty and stent inserted. I'm hoping to be out of the hospital on Monday but that's not guaranteed.

    1. Holy crapcakes, Twayn! A "little" heart attack?

I got you covered. take care of yourself.

      1. All things considered I'm not bad. The blockage left enough room for the catheter to get through and we got to the hospital fast. Doc says if there is any damage to the heart tissue it is very minor. I feel damn lucky it happened at home instead of on our trip.

    2. Best wishes Twayn, take it easy. With this kind of desire to come back to the game logs Gardy would be awfully proud.

    3. Twayn, you have a gift for understatement. I think if I'd had a heart attack, a game log would be pretty low on my list of concerns. Know that you are in our prayers. Best wishes always.

    4. Best wishes to your health, man. Make a full recovery so that truck can keep running.

    5. My wife's dad had a heart attack last year and was back to his old grumpy-a** self in no time. Uhm, here's to you being your old self in no time...
      too soon

    1. I was away from the tv. Was Mauer trying to bunt for a hit, or was it a true sac bunt try?

  10. Homemade guacamole with chips. I'm feeling too lazy to cook for myself tonight (was planning a Thai red curry with sweet potato, cauliflower and green beans). Saving my beer dollars for later, when I plan to go listen to some live jazz.

      1. I'll expect a restaurant review post.

seriously. that is something we need here, restaurant reviews. Not Olive Garden.

          1. Oh, damn. Are my peeps in town for a confab? Drunk political scientists!!!111one111!!!

  11. NECK FAT!!!

(background crowd noise behind Dazz -- some guy yelling "Mijares can't throw strikes!")

  12. another leadoff Royals batter on base. sigh.

*edit* I missed an out. still, another Royals batter on base

  13. That swing by Cain on the double was an absolute mirror-image of eye-eye.

  14. oh man, that was....something.

FSN showed some dude, and he had a Mauer jersey shaved into his back hair.

  15. on man, Duensing is getting hosed here. nothing hit real hard and 3 runs are on the board.

  16. I am starting to think that my wager on the Twins to win the division might not work out.

  17. That should really count as a loss for the St. Paul Gophers. Oh, well. I guess we'll just have to settle for 107-55!
