2012 Game 112: Tampa Bay Rays at Minnesota Twins

Hellickson
v
De Vries

Assorted notes:

  • The Twins are 0.01 runs/game above league average on offense.
  • The Twins are 0.001 runs/game behind Cleveland for pitching. They have already given up five fewer runs than Cleveland, but played one less game. If they give up one less run than the Indians today, they will no longer be last in the league. It will be awhile until they can think about trying for 12th.
  • The Twins pitching trail the league in strikeouts, at 650 so far. They have 90 fewer than the next worse.
  • The Rays pitching lead the league in strikeouts, at 935.
  • The Twins offense is second best at avoiding the strikeout, with 712.
  • The Rays offense is third-worst at striking out, with 893.

    1. since Morneau seems to have righted his swing, the Mauer-Willingham-Morneau trio is fantastic.

    1. So since he's already given up a HR tonight, we don't have to worry about any more, right?

      1. FSN seems to do a lot of Photoshop-esque editing to their ad spots; those new girls look way different (to me, anyway) in the ads than they did when they were at that game broadcast a month or however long ago.

        1. Somehow, I'm dubious of that. That requires money and time, and their FSN Girl ads are the exact opposite of that. FSN ads in general are generally cheap.

          1. Eh, strike my first clause if you want, I'm just speculating. The appearances in those ads just look more like facsimiles of people than real ones to my eyes.

            1. I won't deny the second part. I didn't see them in the broadcast however long ago, so have nothing to compare against. They do seem rather poddish though.

    1. My vote for creepiest moment in movie history, btw. I could barely look at this image without a chill running up my spine.

      1. A co-worker and I would make this face and point and each other at random times when walking towards each other in the hallway. Always good for a laugh.

    1. I think it was deliberate to break up the double-play. Roberts instead fumbled the ball and so Revere was safe, temporarily.

  1. nice

With 3 hits tonight, Joe Mauer ties Torii Hunter for 7th on the #MNTwins all-time hits list with 1,218

  2. Let's see what else I can think of to blather about that's not this game...

Oh hey, Titus Andronicus announced today a new album coming in October. Some people here like them, right? Nibbish? Hitman?

      1. I'm about tapped out on my shows budget for 2012 already, but I bet that Swans show will be awesome.

        1. My friend saw them on their tour last year and raved about it. I wanted to badly go to their show last year, but didn't have any PTO at my job at the time so I couldn't. I'm really, really excited. It'll be fun to see Xiu Xiu again, too.

  3. Im sure the trio of Casilla (OPS+ 65), Dozier (60), and Carroll (75) strikes a lot of fear in opposing dugouts.

    1. Cole's ERA for today's game was 47.25, but his FIP was only 11.33. His defense didn't help him out! His xFIP was 6.00!

      1. I dont know how one calculates FIP, but just about everything the Rays hit were smoked. De Vries was not fooling anyone, and couldnt throw a curve for a strike

        1. That's a pretty old story, though. When you can't control the breaking ball and have to throw fastballs over the plate you're going to have a short night and an early shower.

  4. Well, this is what happens when Nishioka's not in the lineup. Oh, well. I guess we'll just have to settle for 99-63!
