Diamond's on the mound tonight. That's good.
Vargas takes the mound for the Mariners. That's good-ish (he doesn't strike many out, doesn't walk many, and gives up a fair number of long balls, but seems to be getting lucky so far this year.)
Go twins!
I bet Gardy will string a long line of profanities after hearing this news
Tommy John.
Almost spit out my Lagunitas Little Sumpin Sumpin.
Ron Coomer and Eddie Veder are pals
Looks like he's holding off, to me
I am having a tough time pulling myself away from Joe Dirt to watch this game.
This must be the worst game ever.
I was basically at the park three hours ago and still opted to not attend in person. (I was next door watching the Sounders beat the Whitecaps 2-0.)
That sounds like a fun match to attend.
It was very fun. The Whitecaps supporters weren't as fun as they were last year, but a victory in front of 50K+ is always a good time. Eddie Johnson's moving up the goal-scoring chart, but Wondo got a goal on a BS PK today to increase his total.
I hope Klinsy doesn't get any crazy ideas about EJ being good enough for the Birds of War.
He seems a lot better than he used to be, but I wouldn't put him on a USMNT 'A' squad. If I've learned anything about him this year, it's that if the wings give him good service, he can out-jump defenders and put the ball in the back of the net.
Lineup doesn't really matter, but putting Carroll in the leadoff spot violates the rule of putting your best five hitters in the first five spots in the order. Seems a bit strange. And then, of course, Carroll leads off the game with a single.

Glad they haven't gone the bald look/tat route.
He still somehow has a .332 OBP though.
Provus quip: Mauer pwns Seattle.
More things pussy.
on the board!!!
Got some news on the home front recently.
Here we go again.
Holy balls. Congrats, man!
To celebrate I went with some of these.
Congrats, pally!

Bald look/tat route.
Cheers, sir.
Congrats! How old will the calf be when the sticky bun is fully baked?
Roughly 26 months. We figured that was about right for separation. Bathroom training is going to get serious in this house over the next couple of months.
I've discovered that 22.5 months feels too short (third and fourth).
29 months was definitely long enough (first and second), although we didn't do CER's potty training until after HPR was born.
That's good, because if my wife were to get pregnant right now, it'd be about 21 months. Now that one of my major concerns of having a second is gone, we might start thinking more about it. Good to hear we might not have waited too long.
I am 29 months older than my brother. Of course, my sister is between the two of us.
All six of us were 7 years apart. 'course, my two sisters were adopted.
Wow, 42 years from first kid to last!
only 35.
1 to 2: 7
2 to 3: 7
3 to 4: 7
4 to 5: 7
5 to 6: 7
Total: 35
yea, yea, yea. After a beer and a 12-oz g&t, I'm proud I could multiple 6 by 7.
I am 35 months older than my sister, who is 37 months older than my brother.
Firstly, congrats to FTLT.
I am the oldest, 50 months older than my closest sibling.
From there, we waited another 92 months for the third brother.
In both cases potty-training happened before the appearance of the new kid.
I and my only sibling, my sister are also 29 months apart.
AMR Bday - SNF* Bday = CER Bday - HPR Bday + 1 day.
*nee SNR
congrats!
Gawd I'm dense. I thought you were proud of baking that.
Congrats none-the-less of course.
If it's any consolation, I was equally dense.
Kudos, FTLT!
I'm dumbstruck, so I'll use this again. congrats!

w00t.
meh. i'm not a big pastry fan.
...
wait, what?
You and ct are on the clock.
Congrats Mr. Baker.

More calves are always a good thing. Congratuations man. We just had kernel's 1st birthday party today and have been talking about timing for #2.
really, the only difference between Diamond and Blackburn is that Diamond gets run support /STrib
Blackburn pitches up in the zone /bert'd
Diamond has the fourth-best GB/FB ratio in the AL among qualifiers.
yeah, I gotta put that /snark tag in again, I guess.
This just in: Phil Cuzzi kind of sucks at umpiring.
Who is Matt Carson?
the Twins decided to use a clubhouse attendant as a player
Real old for a rookie.
Huh, they haven't done that since Scott Klingenbeck.
Crickets. I should have gone with Tommy Herr.
still laighng tooo harD, cant typwojdwo
If the Twins ever get desperate and activate a non-player, I hope that it's Nate Dammann.
I know I went to high school with a Matt Carson, for sure. He would be kind of old for a rookie though.
Span last played the 12th, making tomorrow seven days. Maybe he'll get to ten days before playing once and then going on the DL.
How do you even have a sore bone?
Sounds like a made up injury.
'clavicle' sounds made up
Not a real bone.
No way, Jethro Tull had a clavicle player on a couple of albums.
That is heavy.
Yes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qx3ID0m7JH8
I've never heard of it.
My brother bruised his heel bone in high school. Too much pounding the hardwood.
Can't tell if you are using euphemisms or not, but then again, I didn't get the cinnamon bun photo, either...
I got a nasty bone bruise landing on my arm/wrist when wiping out on a dew-slicked home plate many years ago, and it took many weeks before I could shake hands with someone without wincing.
How do you even have a sore bone?
Asks the guy who just announced the conception of his second.
+ X inches.
Better than a bone sore.
Take two of these and call me in the morning.
Nice catch, Maestro.
Eddie Vedder in the stands with the family, wearing Twins gear.
The Repository says "Vedder is a Chicago Bulls and Chicago Bears fan and a long-time, die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs." Maybe the Twins are his AL team.
They showed a clip of him hanging out in front of the Twins dugout with his kids. Apparently Doumit gave him one of his catcher helmets.
Apparently Eddie Vedder brings in bad mojo. Why because this sh*thead is one big f*cking liar. If you see him with children, those weren't his kids, they're his nieces. And if you saw a big/overweight bald man with them, that's the real dad Tim Bierman, the pearl jam fanclub manager. And the c*nt who he's supposed to be f*cking is actually Vedder's cousin and Bierman's b*tch. That's the reason why the Twins lost the game Eddie Vedder dickhead, bad vibes, you bring bad luck.
Well, that's a bit from left field, but welcome Mr. Colony.
Let's hope that it's Chris Cornell tomorrow then, eh?
I feel this comment made this video appropriate:
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67IfIjR8OfQ
I guess it is okay to root for one major league and one minor league team?
That's what I tell the folks here in StL
he was chatting with Gardy before the game
'Dude, I cant believe you are sending Nick Blackburn out there every 5 days.'
YOU DO NOT RUN ON MATT CARSON!
Whoever he is.
you dont run on ...that guy!
I think the polite thing to do now is for us to all learn his name. Seems like the least we could do.
Clele. Clete Thomas.
(Release the) Quinton McCracken.
Re: Dazzle quiz: guess Brunansky (most runs 'gainst Seattle);
I went with Hrbek (22)
it was HOME runs against Seattle, btw. Bruno had 19
Gary Gaetti.
yeah, one I didn't look up. did he play for anyone else in the AL in his career? were all 24 of those HR's with the Twins?
CAL
KCR
BOS
Angels and Royals*. Guessing would have had a few more chances in his 302 games with the Angels.
* And five games to end his career in Boston.
He had 30 in total against the Mariners. Four of the extra six were in '91 with the Angels.
Who's on first.
Plouffe needs a longer glove.
Plouffe! needs to fix that hole in his glove.
He's gotta get his eyes down, evidently
Not to contradict you, but I think what the WASTE is saying is that his eyes are too high.
50 game suspension looming?
Ploufda x2.
Plouffe with Valencia-like defense tonight
Tomorrow morning's ride: Flat Friday Double Crossing - modified.
I would really like to work up to longer rides (I know DPWY said he liked his Duluth ride). Problem is Dad's bike is too small a frame and I get really cramped up after more than 4 or 5 miles. Dad's a good 4 inches shorter than me, so his handlebars are way to close to my body.
I think I mentioned this before, but we're right by Elm Creek Park with a 17 mile trail circuit. I want to do that in an hour by the end of summer.
Yeah, getting the bike to match your body is important. A couple of millimeters in the tuning can make a big difference.
It's a really nice road bike too, and I like riding it. I take it all over town for errands, but I just can't do any appreciable distance on it. My elbows are crammed into my ribs and I really have to crane my neck backwards to see.
Got the Cervelo S2 for Tri and road work. Very nice.
Whoa, that does look nice. I dunno if I'll ever justify spending that much on a bike, but a guy can hope.
Its the Zipps that make you swallow. Tri-dude (came in 3rd) told me that the 404's took off a minute a mile on his triathlon time. Wow.
Geez, that's 3 months' rent for two bike tires.
The improvements that can be gotten with more expensive bike technology seems like the worst part of bike racing. I feel much the same way about softball bats, too. At least with the softball bats, it seems like the logical solution is just to have the league provide bats.
Tomorrow morning? That would take me a week.
Nesting fial.
Dick: Mauer spanks it pretty hard.
Captain Morgan's name was Henry Morgan; same as Mrs. Runner's dad...hmmmmm
I loved your father-in-law on M*A*S*H.
yeah, I never got to meet him to tell him so.
I never got to meet my wife's dad, either. He died a couple of years before I met her.
If I could be so lucky.
Oh yeah
that bunt was brutal
Who's on first again.
nice takeout slide by Mastroianni allows the run to score
plates the run!
Well done.
I've been waiting all game to use that.
Aye. Bravo.
What's with all the Real Madrid stuff? Did I miss something?
Floremon!
I don't know real madrid from false madrid.
The Pokemon catcher guy looks to be Florentino Perez, the president of RM. He's got the Real Madrid logo on his hat and the ball. The flaming lizard is Cristiano Ronaldo. The turtle is Kaká. I'm not quite sure who Pikacho or the thing in the lower left is.
PS - I got why we were using it, just wondered about the content.
I just found it on the interwebs and thought it was a great graphic. Figured it had something to do with Pokemon and/or soccer, but didn't have a clue.
Whatever the original creator's intent, nice find RD.
The flaming lizard sounds like a great nickname for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Oye, he really smoaked that one.
🙁
Smoak'd.
the tables turned quickly
There are an awful lot of unfortunately named baseball players.
Furbush? What's wrong with Furbush, Furbush is a perfectly good name. Heh-heh-heh-heh, he said Furbush.
this would be a great time for Plouffe to channel his HR stroke from June
Who do the Twins have to play third once Plouffe goes back to the dl?
Carroll
Who's on second?
What.
I'm not asking you who's on second.
Who's on first. When Ploof goes on the DL, I Don't (Wanna) Know is at third.
Why?
Lexi?
I don't know.
He's on third.
You got a pitcher on this team?
Tomorrow.
If only we had some today.
He's a catcher.
Mauer?
Nope. That pussy is on first.
This whole thing was excellent.
One joy of last weekend's Twins game, was that the baseball CD I put together included "Who's on first?"
Watched a 6yo and 9yo in the back seat in the rear view mirror listening to the bit for the very first time.
I had to play it again immediately and then again when we got home for their mom.
man, Florimon has a lot of range.
I'm starting to like this Florimon dude defensively.
You don't make the AAA all star game by being a nobody.
I bet scouts love him. He looks like a great player until you check out the stat sheet.
Stats are for eggheads, the kid can play Baseball. I can feel it in my bones.
A bruise?
There's no such thing.
You don't have to be defensive about your man crushes, we're okay with that.
I got a thing for Furbush.
That's just ambiguous enough to be hilarious.
I think it's hilarious that Florimon can completely fake that he's getting a throw from the catcher on that steal attempt and it's considered smart baseball, but if you invented something like that in soccer, you're a dirty, no-good cheater.
I would say there's a difference between playing mind games with your opponent and trying to deceive the referee.
So catchers should be admonished for "framing" pitches? It's all gamesmanship.
The Maestro is a legit defensive CF. Seeing him play shallow reminds me of Gomez playing shallow, though with less speed and less crazy.
Florimon can bunt! I know it's not a tactic that we like to see a lot of, but as long as teams keep asking players to bunt, I like to see them do it successfully. That might be a better sac bunt than I've seen Punto put down.
[Will Young Punto .jpg]
Eric LaRussa.
You know what we need here? Of course you do.
Jedddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd!
That critter won't hunt.
Nuts.
I hate it when they offer us an out and we politely decline it.
Marvelous.
I think Gardy was out of the dugout before Mauer caught the ball
its obvious Robertson was setting up some sort of weird triple play, like 1-2-5-6-3
Know what we need now? Of course you do.
Gees Seattle, calm down. You only beat the Twins.
Good night, Gracie.
httpv://youtu.be/rcPvl6oEN-Y
Good night, sweet Prince.
West coast games really shouldn't count. I mean, they end after I go to bed, so how do I know they even really happened? Anyway, it sounds like the bad guys won. Oh, well. I guess we'll just have to settle fro 93-69!
This was an all-star caliber game thread, kids. Good to see that we're not tanking to get into the lottery. Well played.
