  1. fun facts: Jeff Gray has the second highest win total on the Twins staff (6). Alex Burnett, Nick Blackburn, and Samuel Deduno are tied for third (4).

    1. Not to be Debbie Downer, but seems like we had a season not too long ago where three chaps had 20+ games.

  2. Morning everyone. Do not adjust your clock, yes I am up before 7AM. I just got home from the grocery store. It's not a bad job for a few weeks, but I wouldn't do it long term. Now to sleep until lunch.

      1. I thought so, too. That was one of my favorite games attended in person. My now wife called me just as Jones hit the homerun to ask me how the game was going. It was pandemonium about 10 seconds after I answered the phone.

    1. April 13, 1985: The Twins seem to have the game well in hand against Seattle. Though the bases are loaded, Minnesota leads 7-4 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Then [redacted] becomes the first Minnesota pitcher to allow a walk-off grand slam for an 8-7 Mariners win. Phil Bradley hits it. Currently, the Twins have surrendered four walk-off grand slams.

    2. May 18, 1969: It’s the most insane display of base running in history. First Rod Carew singles Cesar Tovar to third, putting runners on the corners with super slugger Harmon Killebrew at the plate. Then, rather than let Killebrew drive them in, Carew and Tovar pull off a delayed double steal, with Tovar scoring. Before the at-bat can end, Carew steals third. Finally, with one of the game’s greatest RBI men at the plate, Carew steals home.

I’d say it’s pretty damn rare for two steals of home to occur in one game, let alone one inning, and certainly not in one at-bat. That a great batter was at the plate makes it even more amazing. Carew will steal home seven times this year. The Twins will successfully pull off four triple steals, too.

      Um wow.

    3. I feel like this game has to be in there. Trombley giving up a GW grand slam to Giambi in the 14th inning in Yankee Stadium, after the Twins had rallied to take a 3-run lead.

  3. Casey Fien has an 8.1 K rate and a 2.3 BB rate in 23 1/3 innings. Tyler Robertson has a 17/3 K/BB rate vs. lefties. The Twins may have the makings of a pretty good bullpen next season if they stop insisting on pitching Burnett ahead of Fien. If they can get Duensing back in the bullpen, that would be even better.

  4. ESPN is ranking NBA players ahd has Wes Johnson about 20 spots ahead of Shved. That better not be the case.

    1. that's a case of comparing a mushy apple to a not-quite ripe, but soon to be tasty orange still on the tree.

  5. After watching last night's episode of Breaking Bad, I'm starting to think that Walter White may be something of a flawed individual.

    1. Spoiler SelectShow
  6. Phil Rogers helpfully reminded me yesterday morning that NONE of the Twins' initial (or projected, in the case of Scott Baker?) starting rotation remains in the current starting rotation. I wonder if pitching has been a problem for the club?

      1. Guess who will move into the top spot in games caught in Twins history with his next start? Hint: not Drew Butera.

  7. So, I'm heading to Target Field on Wednesday to take in my first game of the year. I was thinking of hitting up SRO. Does anyone have any yay/nay experiences with it?

Also, I get to watch a Deduno start, so yay, me?

    1. I stood out in the left field corner lower deck near the bar. It was a pretty decent view. It is easy to sneak down to the seats if you would like.

    2. SRO is great for going around and seeing the action from all of the different angles and viewpoints, but there comes a point where you just want to find one spot to hold court. The good railings can sometimes be a little competitive and I have occasionally found myself without anything to lean against. My favorite spot to stand is in the left field corner, but after about the seventh inning I usually try to poach some empty seats somewhere.

    3. I could be wrong but I don't think they always sell SRO tix. Usually only for high attendance games. Me thinks a Wednesday night against the Mariners when most of the state is back at school or at the State Fair isn't a high attendance game. Bottom line: Check with ticket office before planning on SRO.

Now low attendance games means real tix for a super nice price, don't be afraid to check out Stub Hub (where 3rd deck tix are going for $5.00) or the street for a sweet ticket cheap.

    4. I just picked up tickets for Wed night. Hit me up on the book of face if you'd like to meet for a beer.

      1. it was the beerpocalypse at the grocery store. I ended up with a twelver of pbr and a twelver of miller highlife light. I feel fortunate.

    1. More humorous: Vince Young is to be cut to make way.

I think it might be time for Young to hang 'em up.

    2. My favorite tweet about this whole thing was something along the lines of "Vince Young figured he might as well sign with the Bills while he was delayed at Customs on his way to the CFL."

  8. I have seen Nick Punto bat and Livan Hernandez pitch (and even record a strikeout) as a friend and I flip through games tonight. I feel...complete. Or something.
