Dominican Digest: Games of 11/14

Drew Butera was used to maximum effect.

ORIENTE 7, LICEY 5 IN LICEY

TwinsDrew Butera (Oriente) was used as a reserve and did not bat.

Game summary:  Oriente scored two in the fourth to break a 4-4 tie.

Oriente:  Alex Valdez was 2-for-4 with a double and a homer, scoring twice and driving in two.  Junior Lake (Cubs) was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Licey:  Anderson Hernandez (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one.  Dee Gordon (Dodgers) was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple and scored once.

ESCOGIDO 3, AGUILAS 2 IN AGUILAS

TwinsDeibinson Romero (Escogido) made his debut and was 0-for-4.  Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Game summary:  Mauro Gomez (Boston) hit a two-run homer in the third to break a 1-1 tie.

Escogido:  Daniel Cabrera gave up two runs on four hits and two walks in seven innings.  Julio Lugo was 3-for-4 with a double.

Aguilas:  Angel Castro worked 4.1 shutout innings of relief, giving up two hits and no walks.  Manny Ramirez (yes, that one) hit a home run and walked.

ESTE 9, CIBAO 2 IN ESTE

Game summary:  Este overcame a 1-0 deficit in a big way, scoring seven runs in the fifth.

Cibao:  Robinzon Diaz was 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk, driving in two.  Jean Segura (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Este:  Claudio Vargas worked four shutout innings, giving up three hits and three walks.  Matt McBride (Colorado) was 3-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in three.

  1. Heh, I wondered what Butera's optimal usage would be. Keeping the bat out of his hands is a good start.
