Puerto Rican Palaver: Games of 11/17

Daniel Ortiz was the only Twin to do anything positive.

SANTURCE 5, PONCE 2 IN PONCE

TwinsAngel Morales (Ponce) was 0-for-3.  Josue Montanez (Ponce) started and pitched four innings, surrendering four runs on five hits and two walks.

Game summary:  Ponce scored two in the first, but Santurce came right back with four in the second.

Santurce:  Shoki Kasahara gave up two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five in six innings.  Luis Figueroa was 3-for-5 with two doubles and scored once.

Ponce:  Michael Bianucci (Texas) was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Jesmuel Valentin (Dodgers) was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

CAGUAS 6, CAROLINA 1 IN CAGUAS

TwinsJorge Fernandez (Carolina) was used as a reserve and was 0-for-1.

Game summary:  Caguas scored two in the first and three in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead.

Carolina:  Anthony Garcia (St. Louis) was 2-for-3 with a home run.  Enrique Hernandez (Houston) was 1-for-2 with two walks.

Caguas:  Fernando Hernandez (Toronto) was allowed one run on four hits and a walk in five innings.  Johnny Monell (San Francisco) was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer.

MAYAGUEZ 7, MANATI 3 IN MANATI

TwinsKennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 0-for-5.  Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 1-for-3 and scored once.

Game summary:  Mayaguez led 7-0 before Manati scored three in the ninth.

Mayaguez:  Yasiel Puig was 2-for-5 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in two.  Adonis Garcia hit a three-run homer.

Manati:  Shinya Kayama pitched six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out seven.  Michael Perez hit a pinch-hit three-run homer.
