MARGARITA 6, ZULIA 4 IN MARGARITA (GAME 1—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

TwinsDarin Mastroianni (Zulia) was 0-for-2 with a walk and scored once.

Game summary:  It was tied 4-4 after 3 ½.  Wilmer Flores (Mets) tripled and scored in the fourth and Dave Sappelt (Cubs) homered in the fifth to give Margarita the victory.

Zulia:  Freddy Galvis (Philadelphia) was 3-for-4.  Adrian Sanchez (Washington) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Margarita:  Renee Cortez struck out five in 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks.  Cesar Hernandez (Philadelphia) was 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in one.

ZULIA 3, MARGARITA 2 IN MARGARITA (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

TwinsDarin Mastroianni (Zulia) was 0-for-1 with two walks and scored twice.

Game summary:  It was tied at two after five.  Mastroianni walked with two out in the sixth, stole second, and scored on a single by Humberto Quintero (Philadelphia) for what turned out to be the winning run.

Zulia:  Quintero was 2-for-3.  Dwayne Pollock gave up two runs on six hits and two walks in five innings.

Margarita:  Matt Clark (San Diego) hit a two-run homer.

LA GUAIRA 5, ANZOATEGUI 4 IN LA GUAIRA

TwinsEduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Bruce Pugh (Anzoategui) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Game summary:  La Guaira led 5-2 after three.  Anzoategui closed to 5-4 after five and got the tying run into scoring position in the seventh and eighth.

Anzoategui:  Luis Nunez was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk.  Johermyn Chavez (Cubs) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

La Guaira:  Renny Osuna was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.  Javier Herrera (San Francisco) was 3-for-4 and scored once.

CARACAS 6, ARAGUA 3 IN ARAGUA

TwinsOswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 1-for-5 and scored once.

Game summary:  Caracas scored two in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead and got three in the seventh to take control.

Caracas:  Guillermo Moscoso (Colorado) gave up one run on three hits and a walk in four innings.  Bobby Abreu was 2-for-3 with two walks, scoring three times.

Aragua:  Hector Gimenez was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.  Alex Nunez was 2-for-3.

MAGALLANES 4, LARA 3 IN LARA (10 INNINGS)

TwinsDeolis Guerra (Magallanes) retired both batters he faced, one by strikeout.

Game summary:  Lara scored two in the ninth on four singles to tie, only to see Magallanes score in the tenth on a Mario Lisson homer to win.

Magallanes:  Gustavo Chacin worked 7.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits.  Jose Altuve (Houston) was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two RBIs.

Lara:  Paulo Orlando (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with a double.  Danny Farquhar struck out two in two perfect innings.
