It's been a long time since a Sporadic Soccer Story has graced these pages. That is entirely due to my sloth, and I apologize. I figured with the new year brings not only the transfer window, as suggested by Southern Glass Protection but the chance for a new start, so I will do my best to be more regular with SSS entries.
The particular report which prompted this post is a report that Chelsea have been given permission by Newcastle to speak to Demba Ba. Ba is one of my favorite players (and not only because his name is so fun to say), so seeing him in Chelsea blue would be a bummer, personally, though I'm sure a few Citizens would welcome such a transfer.

Just now I've added a ImportHTML and a VLookup to the Prediction Contest spreadsheet, so it should update automatically (on Google Drive, not here). Hopefully we'll see if it worked after today's games, which are as follows:
1:45 - Liverpool v.Sunderland
1:45 - Chelsea v. QPR
2:00 - Newcastle United v. Everton
All times Central. Lots of Citizens' teams in action today. As noted in the article above, Ba will sit out against Everton today, so my Fantasy team thanks you Abrahmovich*.
*May or may not logically be his fault, but I'm blaming him anyway.
Awww, snap - I figured out how to embed the leaderboard. We'll see if it updates as the day progresses. If this works, I may put up the sean signal to give this a permanent place somewhere (God knows where) on the homepage.
That could be tricky. It's not terribly hard to embed just about anything, but it's large enough to potentially cause issues. The inner right sidebar (i.e. the video bar) is wide enough that it will fit, so that might be workable.
There, I tweaked it so it's skinnier. Hopefully it can slide in between the Citizen links and retired jokes?
Done.
Muchas danke.
Thanks, I was wondering about this.
Also Daniel Sturridge is moving from Chelsea to Liverpool. He did ok for the Blues but is probably better suited for Liverpool, all the best to him.
That Ba signing will be great, can't wait for it to be official.
Finally, I didn't realize that Andrew also picked Tottenham placing 2nd. I guess to be fair I need to extend my offer that if Tottenham comes in 2nd I will buy Andrew a new Tottenham kit. Of course it's a lot easier to extend the offer given that the Spurs are stuck pretty solidly in 4th/5th.
I thought I had ManCity in 2nd, so I went to check - turns out I have two teams finishing in 2nd and none in 3rd. Corrected to Spurs in 3rd. It affected the leaderboard slightly, so lets see if the sheet updated.
And it did (though I had to Shift+F5 to refresh)
Updated automatically for me after a regular refresh. It had been a while since I last refreshed though, so the cache may have been stale.
Yeah, I was tweaking and retweaking, so mine needed to be helped along.
Once again, I am king.
I feel like I'm the person in the NCAA pool who's towards the top based on team colors, Having picked Syracuse and Kentucky to the final four correctly because "I always pick the teams wearing red."
And now I'm like that same person picking the Miami Ohio Redhawks because I know they're red because my cousin went there.
QPR has just taken a 1-0 lead over Chelsea. I wholeheartedly want this result to stand.
OFFS!
Leighton Baines's goal was . . . impressive.
