  1. Sigh, that's unfortunate. I liked Ebert. Oh well, at least we still have Siskel!

    1. I saw that. I was hoping to read it in the former Twins transactions column.
Now you'll get to follow Aussie Football!

I did not know that they played the sport with baseball-type bats. And no pads! It's a wonder anyone walks away without a concussion.

        1. good to see that the Aussies still follow tradition, and have not switched to the long shorts.

  2. Took my daughter out for dinner at Ichiban (Daddy, they cook ON THE TABLE!) for her birthday last night and saw Tony Oliva. I'm officially considering that a good omen for the season. Also, he's much taller than I thought.

    1. I met Tony O at the metrodome sometime around mid April '06. I didn't know it was a good sign at the time.

      1. i think i mentioned it here before, but jane and i saw him walking into the dome once. i said, holy crap, that's tony oliva! she said, who? i told her to wait until we got to our seats and then pointed out the 100+ ft photo in the center field upper deck.

          1. I met Tony O when I was working at a hotel in Rochester, his son was at the Mayo and he was staying with us. Super nice guy, he autographed a bb card for me and let me try on his World Series Ring.

          2. I definitely would have said something. Of course, now it would be a snap, given that I met probably a hundred MLBers in the past two months (granted, I didn't know who all of them were...)

            1. It looked like he was with his family also celebrating a birthday... I've gone up to people before, but I figured best to let him be even though from everything I've ever heard he's nice as can be.

      1. Trey and I got to take a photo with Tony O at Target Field in 2011. I shook his hand after. It was HUGE.

  3. It was 20 degrees colder up here yesterday than in the Twin Cities. The potential flood situation up here is getting bad. Every single day where there is minimal (or no!) melting increases the likelihood that there will be major flooding. The Red flows north, which means that downstream melt happens last. Having lived through the 1997 flood up here, I can tell you that this could be all that and then some. By this time in 1997, the flooding was already happening. Not even close yet. There's been almost no melting and the forecast is for continued cold. Oy vey.

    1. Heard on the news this morning that volunteers are already headed up to fill the expected 1,000,000,000+ sandbags that will be needed. It's almost become a dismal rite of spring for church groups and service organizations.

          1. I went with several people from your old business last time. I was flabbergasted by the amount of water when I was on the front line.

    2. not to move into 'forbidden zone' area, but I thought they were building a diversion ditch around Fargo. But I saw on the news last night that the project has been held up. What is the hold up?

      1. People south of Fargo are not happy about it. From what I understand, they will have to eliminate an entire town (albeit a small one) and take a lot of farmland from the locals down there. This will adversely impact another town's school district significantly. I'm not an expert on this topic, but this is what I've heard.

  4. Any Fargoans see the Fargo Star contest? Not normally my cup of tea, but it seems that my cousin's kid (so, my first cousin once removed) won.

  5. Rutgers' AD is out. President next?

They'll fit in nicely with the Eastern contingent of the B1G.

      1. I agree, it was really good. And I've never been more grateful to have a comment section fail to load.

    1. That article also reiterates that Kevin Durant is awesome. I love when a player/singer/artist/whatever is also a fan.

One of my favorite things about the dunk competition is the reaction of the players watching it. It makes me think that sports are actually fun!

      1. this is part of what I love about the TNT studio show. Ernie and the boys clearly are fans and are having fun watching and commenting on the NBA.

    1. What if literally all those people do is repost insipid inspirational "like this is you are fond of your mom" pictures all day? A phone like that would stand a good chance of being thrown into the nearest large body of water.

      1. Ooh, better make it water-resistant*, then!

*not water-proof- there's gotta be some margin for repair/salvage bills

  6. I see the Wolves are currently 13 of 29 from the field, but 0 for 6 from 3PT. I just don't get how an entire team can be so consistently terrible at shooting threes.

  7. How have I not known about this previously. Greatest. Thing. Ever.

    1. I know I put it in the CoC last month. You must have actually been working that day.
