    1. I wasn't rooting for injury, and I would have preferred they miss the playoffs/get bounced in the first round, but like Zack said last night, my eyes are completely dry.

        1. The twitters are talking about amnestying Kobe already. Which, to be honest, is kind of a no-brainer for the Lakers.

              1. More from Marc Stein:

NBA amnesty window ONLY July 1-9 this offseason. That's only time Lakers can amnesty anyone. And remember they'd forfeit Kobe's Bird Rights— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) April 13, 2013

So amnestying Kobe only makes sense for both parties if Lakers are sure they'll have enough cap space to sign him back in summer of 2014— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) April 13, 2013

        2. I wonder if this makes them more likely to trade Pau. I really don't want them to take Pau instead of re-signing Pek.

  1. the LA Angels got shut out by Houston (!!!) last night and are 2-8 to start the season.

    1. I'm probably just a curmudgeon, but I still think it looks wrong every time I see Los Angeles Angles. In my head, they're just going to continue being the Anaheim Angles.

          1. I assume you mean this one?

The Disney-fied first Anaheim Angels logo, the A with wings, was an abomination:

        1. except that they were the L.A. Angels before they were the California Angels (1961-64).... 🙂

it's this ludicrous LAAAAAAA thing they are doing now that annoys me.

  2. Fargo to get a winter storm tomorrow: 6 to 10 inches of snow. Temperatures near freezing for the next week. I cannot believe what is happening.

  3. I think it would be pretty cool to have a prospect watch on the sidebar or somewhere. I'd be willing to keep it updated if someone could put it up for me.

    1. The sidebar is a bit full right now. Are you willing to put it in the Cup of Coffee initially?

        1. Oh, I know. I didn't want to add any more to his plate. I just thought it would be cool to see how the top prospects are doing collectively on the season at a glance here at the WGOM. You know, hope for the future since the will pretty much suck.

      1. If socal wants to pick one day a week and pass along the relevant info, that would be fine. Also, once the NBA season and NHL Playoffs (for the Wild) are done, a sidebar feature might not be a bad thing.

        1. I'd be fine with doing it Sunday night after the games for Monday morning. I was thinking of doing Gibson, Meyer, May and perhaps Berrios when he gets past extended spring training for pitchers and Arcia, Sano, Buxton and Rosario for hitters. We might add as we go along, but that would be a good place to start. How would I pass along the info?

  4. I should never have become friends with Clancey's Meats on the BoF. Every day, it makes me salivate and want to stop by.

  5. Saturday morning: Switching between "American Roots" on WTIP 90.7 FM in Grand Marais and "The Polka Show" on WXPR 91.7 FM in Rhinelander, WI.

    I love the internet.

    1. I always loved "American Roots" whenever I woke up early enough to hear it on the Current. It's a shame they couldn't give it better time of week than 6-8am on Sundays. Of course, I suppose I could seek it out online...

      1. I don't know if there's a podcast version, but WTIP streams it from 10-noon on Saturdays. And, correcting myself above, apparently it's spelt "American Routes." Makes sense, actually.

  6. Maybe just of interest to DPWY, I was invited out to Rex's den this week to advise them on some artifact installation. They let us wander around their floats for a bit, and I was shocked to see how much progress they've already made on next years floats.

    1. Very cool. My father would pass along tales of the quest to create a Bacchus den that basically turned into an extortion a cashgrab a debacle business as usual in New Orleans.

  7. Take dramatic license to show what he was really like. LOLZ!

    1. Yeah, it seems he doesn't really understand the term he was using. It's also possible that his comma should be read as an "and," and Shecky's just making two separate comments, but I'm willing to never give him the benefit of the doubt.

    1. The Twins should trade Hendriks now. I don't know if he'll ever be any good or not, but the Twins obviously have no faith in him if they're going to send him down after two starts, one of which was pretty good. Sending him to Rochester accomplishes nothing. If he succeeds, well, we already knew he could get AAA hitters out. If he doesn't succeed, nobody's going to want him. This is the year we should be putting him in the rotation all season and seeing if he can learn and get to be a good pitcher. If the Twins won't do that, they might as well get rid of him while he still has some trade value.

      1. from Mike Berardino's story

Twins officials have said he doesn't have much left to prove at Triple-A, where he has gone a combined 13-7 with a 2.95 ERA in 25 starts the past two seasons, but he needs to work on mixing his pitches better and improving his efficiency.

"He's dominated down there," Gardenhire said. "Now it's all about getting deep into games and using all your pitches. The good thing for us is I can watch right on this computer and see how he's doing. He knows it. He knows what he has to do."

good to know the Twins are using Skype

        1. I still say that's all stuff he should be learning in Minnesota. Again, it's a catch-22. If he tries to mix his pitches better and struggles as a result, he stays down. If he dominates, well, we already knew he could dominate down there, so it doesn't prove anything. It's obvious nobody in the Twins' organization listens to me, though (not that they should, of course), so I'll shut up about it.

        2. I can't imagine that Hendriks would have the success he's had at AAA without getting deep into games and using all his pitches. He just doesn't have any pitches that are that good.

  8. I'm listening to the Cubs game. Pat Hughes just referred to someone as having a "ghastly" ERA. Somehow I don't think I'll ever hear Dazzle use the word "ghastly".

    1. Sure you will.

"The count on Hicks is 1-2, nobody out, we're in the bottom of the 6th inning. To continue what I was saying last inning, Cory, you've seen that picture of Blyleven right? You know the one I'm talking about, right? He's got that shirt that says, 'I love to...' well, let's just say it describes a bodily function. And here's what I'm saying about Blyleven, is that every time I was around him, and even now, when I popped down to the TV booth back in the top of the 5th for that Harley Davidson promotion, he wasn't lying on that shirt. The TV booth was absolutely gassedly. It's good be back up here with you, my good partner, Cory Provus. And Morneau pops up in foul territory, and we're heading to the 7th."

  9. We do know the Twins have a day game today, right? I only ask because I don't see a game log. I have to leave soon anyway, so I won't be able to participate, but I always enjoy reading them after the fact.

    1. And I no sooner type that than I see the game log there. Never mind, folks. Nothing to see here.

  10. Wolves get win #30 for this year. the first ever 30 win season without KG on the roster.

  11. Wild gain a point tonight with a shootout loss.
but they need to win games
they need to press the Neshek button
