  1. Mastro reinjured his ankle.
if the Twins he learned anything after the past 2 losing seasons, they should put him on the DL now

    1. Oops, I am having math issues today. His career ISO is slightly above the league average. Still don't think that counts.

        1. Pretty close: .438. Second highest OPS-against. Highest if you exclude the two PAs against the Reds. Tied for most home runs against.

  2. ruh ruh. "Some Dude vs. Some Other Dude", and we're still in April and only 2 games out of first!

  3. Wait, Dozier is leading off now? Eh, at least Mauer is still in the second spot, I guess.

    1. I am impressed with Gardy's new-found dedication for batting Mauer second. Naturally, this is offset by his original desire to make Ramirez the DH.

      1. Yeah, couldn't Arcia have stuck around? C'mon, did anyone really expect Willingham to only miss one day?

          1. I thought the combination of paternity leave and available playing time in the outfield might have opened the door slightly for Oswaldo, but I guess not.

        1. You know the rules. Day-to-day for a couple of weeks, with maybe a pinch-hitting appearance in the middle, THEN DL, THEN Tommy John.

          1. Tommy John required when infield dirt found in his ligament. Sadly, he took Dazzle's advice.

  4. I am a happy camper tonight. The Bureau of Military History has made many of the Witness Statements available online, including the ones I need.

      1. Irish Volunteers, Irish Republican Brotherhood, IRA and other various factions in Irish independence, as well as their relatives and pretty much anyone with a connection. Some time after independence, it was decided to get as many statements as possible to record the history. They are all sealed until after the testifier's death just to be safe.

If you're interested. I'm using Mickey Spillane WS 132.

            1. It's okay- Joe has as many hits in this game as Hicks has all season, so it evens out.

  5. It's almost 9:00 and it's not yet the third inning. Sometimes, I hate being on the east coast.

  6. Wasn't Vargas pretty good last year?

    {check MLB stat page for myself}

Heck, last three years he's been pretty good. Wonder how much of that was Safeco.

    {quick glimpse at splits}

Um, quite a bit. Over 2 runs better on ERA at home in 2010 (2.86 vs. 4.85) and 2012 (2.74 vs. 4.78)- 2011 is reversed, but by less than a run (4.56 at home, 3.79 on the road). Still, he's thrown a lot of innings the last couple years.

  7. So LENIII is really talking Mauer up on twitter so far this season. Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't he one of the leaders of the boo-Joe campaign last season?

    1. I was never sure if LENIII was serious or tongue-in-cheek with that. Of course, I didn't follow it extremely closely, either.

      1. I've never known LENIII to be completely unreasonable. That would suggest he was being tongue-in-cheek.

        1. Judging by the tone of his articles I've read, that was what I thought was most likely, too.

    2. yeah, Im not getting what his point is (is it snark? is it hate? is it a KFAN bit?)

I dont remember what he was saying last year

  8. is anyone else have a problem with mlb.tv on the PS3 where it keeps randomly jumping around to different parts of the game? i'm in the bottom of the 2nd for the time being. i feel like billy pilgrim.

    1. How can you be sure there's something wrong with your feed? Maybe, you're travelling through time!

Let us know how it turns out.

  9. mlb.tv is being kooky tonight. It keeps moving me to the bottom of the second. That is enjoyable for Twins runs but irritating for obvious reasons.

    1. I just moved to the Angels feed and that seems to be working. I think. For now.

    2. You and HJ seem to be having the same time travel issue. There's nothing wrong with mine.

    3. this is happened a couple times before as well. honestly, i'm not paying 100% attention to the game, so i'll look up now and then and suddenly get very confused.

  10. So, I got a mixed case of Sam Adams IPA flavahs at Costco a couple of weeks ago. I'll give it an "interesting". Worth a try. Tonight is the Dark Depths Baltic IPA. It's got some Baltic Porter character with a bit more hops. Pretty good, actually. But not an IPA.

The Bros. rate it as good. But they classify it as a Baltic Porter. Again, I concur.

  11. Royalton, Minnesota. One of those annoying speed traps towns that slows down the drive up north.

    1. Bert: "I'm personally not a fan of it."

Everyone else: That is how you got in the HOF, you doofus.

      1. Wife: "How can you 'not be a fan' of a stat?"

And now he acknowledges the "so called experts".

    2. Bert: "I don't use them. I know you [Dick] and I do a lot of research [snort!!!] before each game, but I don't look at the WAR or that stuff."

I'm not asking for Gleeman to be on the broadcast, but can we please retire these two clowns and get some fresh perspective for the first time in a score?

  12. Question of the day: "Are you guys fans of sabermetric stats?"
    I eagerly await the answer.

    1. Nice contrast to Dick'n'Bert babbling about SABRmetrics. Bert: "It didn't help me when I was on the mound."

      1. Wife: "That's the point! You didn't get any help."

Yep. There's a reason I married her. Eventually I'll get her to read Moneyball.

      1. I actually went to bed, got a full night's sleep and woke up just to find out we're still in the fifth.

    1. Looks like it hit him in the thoracic vertabrae*. Has to hurt, but hopefully fine for tomorrow.

      * Thanks Repository for making me sound smart.

    1. My rule on pitching. When facing a dude who's hitting .045 with a .000 isoP, throw strikes.

  13. I'm going to bed. Looks like I'll have 1.5 games to watch tomorrow!

P.S. Tell novak not to lynch me.

  14. Between Kendrick's lackadaisical feed on that ground ball and Iannetta's retrieval of that wild pitch, the Angels defense has clearly stopped caring tonight.

    1. Probably realized they're playing for Scioscia and that any of their personal successes only make him look good, so why bother trying?

        1. Countdown to the moment after Scioscia gets tossed when Seth Davis/Jay Bilas Tom Verducci/Jon Heyman moan about how "absolutely sick" they are to see such a "great guy" lose his job.

        2. He has a contract through 2018. Assuming it's guaranteed, that's a lot of money to lose. I would guess it is not 100% guaranteed though.

          1. The last manager fired by the Twins was dismissed mid-season. Of course, that was almost 30 years ago.

        3. I'd be surprised if Gardy is in that much trouble. My guess is that the Twins front-office realizes the talent just isn't that good right now. Unless the Twins completely go into the tank this year, I think we'll have Gardy around for a while yet.

    1. Fits my anecdotal beliefs about him:
Pitches his best when he's not expecting to pitch.
I believe he got close to a no-hitter last year (or two years ago) when he was an emergency starter.

          1. Was with my father-in-law at Kramarczuk's and I had committed to buying a jersey with the nonsense word "SWARZAK" on it if Starlung completed the no-hitter.

  15. Zack, that tool on Facebook you keep inflicting upon yourself via Mauer argument is definitely the least intelligent "Brooks M." I've ever observed.

    1. He is not the brightest bulb. I'm not sure why I bother, but I also just can't handle watching fools drool out moronic things about Mauer not hitting enough RBIs.

I should probably stop. There'll be less competition to try to get tickets when he's enshrined in the Hall that way.

  16. Probably doesn't need to be said, but...
I'm all for Gardy letting Schwarzbier try for the four-inning save.

      1. Well, I took on a second job. I have been putting the "O" in hockey dad. I declined coaching baseball this summer, so I hope to be able to cruise the game logs more often. I read through the last couple, and realized how much I missed this place.

        1. Oh, and I was honored to have HAL in the WGOM banner. Makes me not want to change my avatar...ever.

            1. some issues with the links to banners on the banners page, FYI. like the avatar one, fer instance.

    1. This is what I have been watching listening to these games for, for the last half-decade.
      Make it happen Skillsaw!
Nooo!!! Plouffer wanted to pitch the ninth I guess.

    1. Is he throwing or just stretching?
If a run scores, it's not a save sitch. Need another baserunner, too.

        1. right. At that point, it wasn't a run scoring that would have caused a save opp (for a new reliever), but another baserunner.
Which was Schuck. who then got on base. chasing Squirtslug from the game.

        1. Official ruling because I'm a flighty bitch sometimes and I don't want things counting against Sorespank tonight.

            1. Of course, had he come in with a four-run lead and one run in the seventh, it'd definitely be a SOC.

  17. Crax. Save sitch for Perk.
Booo! Booo! Scarecot needed a chance to become a proven Saveget.

  18. Hey, whaddayano, that whole "Tying run represented by batter on deck" thing coming to be needed?

  19. He should've been thrown out for running inside the line anyways. What a weird route to first for PooHoles.

  20. I just turned the game on for the 9th, why did we have the Angels play-by-play there?

    1. I was going to point that out. Canucks lost, but gained a point because it went to a shootout. The division's fading but the playoffs are looking more and more likely, as we separate a bit from the glut of teams in the middle.

      1. Vancouver has played 42 games, they have accumulated 7 Bettman points. The Wild only 3

    1. you know, if his defense would turn a double play every once in a while he wouldnt give up so many runs.

  21. Mike Pelfrey knows how to win! We're so good we don't even need three outfielders! We're still on track for 155-7!
