I didn't see anything in drafts or scheduled posts, so I'm going to step in and make the post.
I was going to pick up the new National CD, Trouble Will Find Me, but Target and WalMart did not deign to supply it, so... yeah.
Luckily, High Violet is still a great album.

I thought of this just a minute or two ago and was going to just post this...

I hate to steal my own thunder but I'm working on creating a podcast called 2GBV+1. The intent is to take two Guided By Voices songs and pair them up with one other song. Sometimes they may be thematic, sometime just three songs that I like (with the later probably the most frequent).
Anyway, does anyone know of a good podcast/blogging tool where I can upload .mp3s so that people can listen to the three songs I've selected? I've looked into spreaker.com and that seems to be close to what I want to do.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
No random list today, but here's the summer mix I ended up with (a couple of the suggestions nearly made the cut... quite possibly they will next year):
1. "My Best Friend's Girl" - The Cars
2. "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" - The Darkness
3. "Gonna Make You Love Me" - Ryan Adams
4. "Put It On Me" - Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals
5. "Closing Time" - Semisonic
6. "It's Love" - Chris Knox
7. "Who'll Stop The Rain" - CCR
8. "The Authority Song" - John Cougar Mellencamp
9. "Paralyzed" - Mando Diao
10. "Diane Young" - Vampire Weekend
11. "Denial Twist" - White Stripes
12. "Wake Up Little Suzie" - Everly Brothers
13. "Peaches" - Presidents Of The United States Of America
14. "The Death Of You And Me" - Noel Gallagher
15. "Independence Day" - Martina McBride
16. "Song Away" - Hockey
17. "Ain't Got No Home" - Clarence "Frogman" Henry
18. "The Calculation" - Regina Spektor
19. "Train In Vain (Stand By Me)" - The Clash
20. "Something You Ain't Got" - Cracker
21. "Hold On" - Alabama Shakes
22. "The Great Leap Forward" - Billy Bragg
23. "A New Life" - Jim James
1 - 3. At various times all 3 of these led off the mix. But the flow worked best this way.
4. Yeah, this was the one I went with still... thanks for the help though!
11. I was debating which White Stripes song to include, then heard this backed up to "Diane Young" on the radio... perfect.
15. Philosofette has been asking me to include this one for years.
20. I was conflicted about this song because of the guy's unrelenting views on copyright.
23. The shorter radio edit is better than what I could find, but it's still a great song for ending a mix.
Some good stuff here, some meh (IMHO). I absolutely hate that song Peaches however. I Believe in a Thing Called Love is goofy perfection.
"Peaches" is there because I think my 3 year old will enjoy the heck out of it. And I don't mind it. There are some other "meh" songs, but at least a couple are other Philosofette requests that I agreed to include because I think they work in the mix. Also, my musical tastes aren't as refined as some.
Hey don't be so defensive. It's your list, not mine and I'm sure it's doing exactly what you want it to accomplish: putting together a bunch of songs you and your family will enjoy over the summer. I'm sure if I did something similar I'd get a bunch of eye rolls and quick moves to the ff button.
Cool. Thanks.
that reminds me, i really need to get around to sifting through my library and making a playlist for the boy.
I like "Peaches".
"Thing called love" grates.
You put "Closing Time" 18 tracks to early.
You always close with that.

Sounds like a guy with good taste.
well, he is with my mom

*Nice name. I am shocked to recognize this song. I'm not sure how or why because I've never heard of him (it? are they a band?) before. It must be on a commercial or something.
**It was really interesting to see them at the Entry a few weeks ago because the drummer plays while standing up and "clackin' heels" with tap shoes. A recording doesn't quite have the same effect, but it was a really interesting gimmick.
***Ok, this doesn't really fit with the small-town Kansas vibe. Maybe small-town Idaho.
****Oh, dear God - Brian Oake got control of my Pandora! Besides him, who can possibly listen to this garbage?
*****That's better.
It is. American Family Insurance, I believe?
Among others. It was used by three-plus different organizations for commercials. I recall HGTV and the one you list. Pretty sure there was another.
NBC included it in their Olympic coverage.
I can guarantee you that is not where I heard it.

How is it? You need to rank The National albums now.
It's really good. Three years after High Violet, I think my ranking is this:
1. Boxer
2. High Violet
3. Alligator
4. Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers
5. The National
But I think #2 and #3 could be swapped. I can't put the new one in there yet, though, it's too soon. Maybe by the end of the year, I'll have a better idea.
My friend wrote this:
Happy Birthday Bob Dylan
That is really well done - thanks for sharing free!

** was used on a Captain Morgan commercial. After about the 7,623rd time listening to the commercial I finally did some digging about the song. Would have never pegged it as Iggy Pop.
***MP3 player went on a The Replacements bender tonight.
