  1. I was at Target Field last night with my Dad and my boys (6 & 3). The report:

Pre-game ceremony - Missed most of it. I was standing in the bathroom waiting for a slightly constipated kid, who announced to all of section 313 that "this talking is boring and I need to go poopy!"

3rd inning - Looked like it might be a pitching duel. Didn't really see much of it. Made at least three trips to the bathroom with one kid or both. 3-year old was having trouble not kicking the man in front of him.

4th inning - Lemonade spill, on the guy who was getting kicked earlier. He turned around and gave a dirty look that made the my son instantaneously melt into tears. The man's pregnant companion insisted it was not a problem and those things happen. He did not seem to agree. I wanted to tell him to just wait a few months and he'd understand, but instead apologized as much as I could and did what I could to comfort my son, who cried through the bulk of the inning. The 6-year old helpfully announced that "my brother is crying because he lost his lemonade".

6th inning - Saw the Tigers hit a bunch of doubles. Both kids, who were previously whining about how slow the game was and how much they wanted to go home and play legos, decided it was time to try and loudly convince me to stay until the end of the game. I'm pretty sure panic set into lemonade guy's heart. We decided to leave - I think I heard cheering as we walked out.

      1. If father knew best last night we would have been long gone before the game started.

        1. I once left a perfect game in the 5th inning without knowing it was a perfect game.

    1. Reminds me of a post quite a while back of a baseball card trading buddy that went on a field trip with family to Chicago for a ballgame. Several kid-induced headaches ensued, including leaving a daughter's favorite blanky behind at a motel. I laugh now, because I can - whew.

  2. I am very amped for this game 5 tomorrow night. This might be this Spurs team's last hurrah. Duncan is 37, Ginobili is on his last legs. Can they get a fifth title? Can Miami play at the level they are capable of?

If Miami wins, this series will be pretty much over. If the Spurs win, I think it goes seven and we could see a classic game 7. I am ready for this tonight, but we gotta wait until tomorrow.

  3. Aw crap.

Joe calls Crash into his office. With Nuke gone, there is no longer a need for a 30-something catcher. He informs Crash that although the club is releasing him, he has suggested to the organization that Crash would make a good manager. He tells Crash, "There might be an opening in Visalia next season."

The Visalia Oaks were a Class A farm team of the Minnesota Twins when "Bull Durham" was released, and their manager was Scott Ullger. He remembers going to see "Bull Durham" with his wife that year.

Maybe if Crash Davis had gotten that job in Visalia, we wouldn't have been subjected to all the Ullgering.

  4. I have one extra ticket for tonight's game in the dugout club just above the Twins dugout. The catch: you have to watch the game with Sheenie, Philo, and me. First to claim it gets it - we're meeting at "the glove" around 5:30.

    1. I so wanted to claim it, but I promises to be kept.
and Miles to go before I slept.

      Related: playhouse assembled!
old greasy/rusty gas grill disassembled! (and new rider mower parked in its place in garage.)

    1. Bit confused why most of Wisconsin gets Yankees-Angels instead of White Sox-Astros or Twins-Tigers. Well, I'm not that confused, as either of the other games would actually make sense.

  5. I just got home from seeing This Is The End. Overall it is what you'd expect, but there were a couple of points where I laughed so hard I though I'd given myself a hernia. I will say that it's also great to see a bunch of people who are clearly friends have fun making a movie together.
