Minor Details: Games of 6/26

Another homer for Chris Colabello.  A good day for Miguel Sano.  And we're up-to-date!

ROCHESTER 9, INDIANAPOLIS 7 IN INDIANAPOLIS

Batting stars:  Chris Colabello was 2-for-4 with a home run, his eighteenth, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jeff Clement was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.  James Beresford was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Blake Martin struck out one in a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk.  Shairon Martis gave up one hit in 1.2 scoreless innings.

Opposition stars:  Josh Harrison was 4-for-5 with two doubles and a triple, scoring three times and driving in two.  Andrew Lambo was 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.  Alex Presley was 2-for-5 with a double and scored once.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Indians had scored two in the seventh to cut the Red Wings lead to 7-6.  In the eighth, a pair of walks and a bunt single loaded the bases with none out.  Beresford then delivered a two-run single for a couple of needed insurance runs.  Indianapolis scored one in the bottom of the eighth but did not get closer.

Prospect watch:  Aaron Hicks went 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI on a rehab assignment.  Cole DeVries pitched to contact, lasting five innings and giving up eight hits with no walks and no strikeouts.

NEW BRITAIN 9, ALTOONA 2 IN ALTOONA (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Batting stars:  Curt Smith was 3-for-4 with a home run (his fourth), scoring three times and driving in four.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run (his third), scoring twice.

Pitching stars:  Starter Matthew Summers had pitched two shutout innings before the game was suspended, giving up one hit.  Dakota Watts pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Carlos Paulino was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Andy Vasquez was 2-for-4.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Rock Cats led 3-1 but hadn't scored since the second.  Smith singled, Eddie Rosario drew a two-out walk, and Nate Hanson came through with a triple to make the score 5-1.

Prospect watch:  Rosario was 0-for-4 with a walk and scored once.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-4 with a double and scored once.

NEW BRITAIN 6, ALTOONA 3 IN ALTOONA (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Jordan Parraz was 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer.

Pitching star:  Edgar Ibarra pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Nate Baker struck out six in four shutout innings of relief, allowing no hits and two walks.  Charles Cutler was 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Oscar Tejada was 2-for-3 and scored once.

Key inning:  The first.  The first six Rock Cats all scored.  Danny Santana walked.  Eddie Rosario singled.  Josmil Pinto singled to drive in a run.  Ortiz tripled in two.  Sano hit an RBI triple.  Parraz hit a two-run homer.  New Britain led 6-0 before an out was recorded in the game.

Prospect watch:  Rosario was 1-for-4 and scored once.  Pinto was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Tom Stuifbergen pitched five innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and a walk.

JUPITER 5, FORT MYERS 3 IN JUPITER

Batting star:  Candido Pimentel was 2-for-3 with a double and scored once.

Pitching star:  Corey Williams struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Justin Nicolino pitched seven innings, allowing one run on two hits and no walks.  Alfredo Lopez was 3-for-4 and scored once.  Austin Nola was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Key inning:  The third.  In a scoreless tie, the Hammerheads had a runner on first with two out when they put together three consecutive singles and two doubles.  Austin Barnes and Ryan Rieger each had RBI singles.  Alex Burg drove in two with a double and Nola had an RBI double.  The five runs were all Jupiter would need.

Prospect watch:  Byron Buxton was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-3 with an RBI.

CEDAR RAPIDS 5, BURLINGTON 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Dalton Hicks was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his second.

Pitching stars:  Jose Berrios struck out nine in seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits and no walks.  Alex Muren pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Cam Bedrosian, son of ex-Twin Steve Bedrosian, retired all seven batters he faced, striking out four.  Pedro Toribio was 3-for-4.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Kernels led 2-1.  Singles by J. D. Williams and Michael Quesada were followed by a sacrifice bunt, putting runners on second and third.  With two out, Jorge Polanco and Hicks hit back-to-back doubles to give Cedar Rapids a 5-1 advantage.

Prospect watch:  Polanco was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.

ELIZABETHTON 5, PRINCETON 4 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Bryan Santy was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.  Ryan Walker was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Javier Pimentel was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Felix Jorge struck out six in 5.2 innings, giving up one run on one hit and three walks.  Dallas Gallant pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.  Brandon Peterson struck out one in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Luis Cabrera pitched three shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk.  Hunter Lockwood was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Twins led 5-4.  Yoel Araujo led off with a single, went to second on a bunt, and stole third with one out.  The next batter, Jesus Araiza, struck out.  The third strike got away from the catcher, but Araujo was thrown out trying to score.  The next batter grounded into a force out to end the game.

Prospect watch:  Rory Rhodes was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring twice.  Zach Granite was 2-for-5.

GCL TWINS 5, GCL ORIOLES 4 AT ORIOLES

Batting stars:  Adonis Pacheco was 2-for-3 with a walk and a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Alex Swim was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Will Hurt was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching stars;  Leonel Zazueta pitched four shutout innings, giving up three hits.  Markus Solbach gave up three hits in two shutout innings.  Miguel Gonzalez struck out one in a shutout inning, giving up one hit and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Jesus Martinez was 3-for-5 and scored once.  Andres Aguilar was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Dioni Dominguez retired all six batters he faced, striking out three.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Orioles trailed 5-1.  Bruce Pugh came in to start the inning.  The Orioles led off the inning with a walk and a single.  With one out, a walk and an error made it 5-2 and put runners on first and third.  Aguilar singled to make it 5-3.  With two out, Justin Viele singled to make it 5-4 with runners on first and third.  A stolen base made it second and third.  Pugh rallied to strike out Oswill Lartiguez to end the inning.

DSL REDS 9, DSL TWINS 5 AT REDS

Batting stars:  Joel Ramirez was 3-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring three times.   Rafael P. Valera was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.  Manuel Guzman was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Williams Ramirez started and struck out five in three innings, giving up one run on two hits and two walks.  Sebastian Perez pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Jacob Constante started and pitched four innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk.  Henderson Peralta was 3-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Raynar Guerrero was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring three times and driving in one.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Reds led 3-1.  In the top of the inning, Ramirez singled, stole second, and scored on a pickoff error to make the score 3-2.  In the bottom of the inning, a walk and a single put two men on, and a fielder's choice on which no one was retired gave the Reds and insurance run.  Peralta singled in a run to make it 5-2.  An error made it 6-2, a ground out made it 7-2, and another error made it 8-2.  The Reds scored five runs on two singles, two walks, and two errors.

Prospect watch:  Dubal Baez was 0-for-3 with a walk and scored once.
