Rochester wins with a big inning.  Virgil Vasquez throws a gem.  Cedar Rapids holds off a Hot Rod rally.

ROCHESTER 6, PAWTUCKET 2 IN PAWTUCKET

Batting stars:  James Beresford was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Jermaine Mitchell was 2-for-4 with a triple and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Cody Eppley struck out four in three perfect innings.  Luis Perdomo pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks with one strikeout.  Michael Tonkin pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition star:  Will Latimer struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Red Wings trailed 2-1 when they came roaring back with four runs.  Eric Farris doubled, Ray Olmedo singled, and Antoan Richardson was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  A force out tied the score.  Chris Colabello hit an RBI double to give the Wings the lead.  A walk to Jeff Clement loaded the bases again.  Deibinson Romero then drove in two with a single to put Rochester up 5-2.

"Prospect" watch:  Richardson was 1-for-4 and scored once.  Colabello was 1-for-5 with a double, a run, and an RBI.

NEW BRITAIN 1, TRENTON 0 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting star:  Eddie Rosario was 3-for-4.

Pitching star:  Virgil Vasquez struck out nine in eight innings, giving up only one hit and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Shane Greene pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk while striking out three.

Key inning:  The second.  Daniel Ortiz hit a one-out triple and scored on a ground out for the only run of the game.

Prospect watch:  Josmil Pinto was 0-for-2 with a walk.  Nate Hanson was 0-for-3.

LAKELAND 8, FORT MYERS 7 IN FORT MYERS (11 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Stephen Wickens was 3-for-4 with two walks and a double and scored once.  Aderlin Mejia was 2-for-5 with a walk and an RBI.  Jhon Goncalves was 2-for-5 with a walk and scored once.

Pitching star:  Zach Jones struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Jeff McVaney was 3-for-4 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Devon Travis was 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs.  Dixon Machado was 2-for-6 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.

Key inning:  The eleventh.  The Miracle had led 6-2, but it was tied at seven at this point.  A pair of singles put runners on first and third, and a sacrifice fly brought home a run for the Flying Tigers to give them the lead.  The Miracle could not get the tying run past first in the bottom of the inning.

Prospect watch:  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-5 with a walk.  Mike Kvasnicka was 1-for-6 with a two-run homer, his seventh.

CEDAR RAPIDS 7, BOWLING GREEN 6 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Jonathan Murphy was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, his fourth.

Pitching stars:  Mason Melotakis pitched six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  David Hurlbut pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Andrew Toles was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring twice and driving in one.  Marty Gantt was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and an RBI.  Leonardo Reginatto was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Trailing 7-2, the Hot Rods got back into the game.  An error and a Brandon Martin triple made it 7-3.  Toles singled to make it 7-4.  Another single, a double steal, and a single by Reginatto made it 7-6, with Reginatto taking second on an error with one out.  Hurlbut came in to replace Alex Muren, who had started the inning, and retired the next two batters on fly outs to end the threat.

Prospect watch:  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-5 with a double.  Max Kepler was 0-for-4.

GREENEVILLE 5, ELIZABETHTON 3 IN GREENEVILLE

Batting stars:  Byran Haar was 3-for-4 with a run.  Dereck Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Tim Shibuya pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts.  Kuo Hua Lo gave up only a walk in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Jack Mayfield was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Brett Phillips was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  Jordan Mills struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing two hits.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Astros led 4-3.  Alfredo Gonzalez drew a one-out walk, took second on a ground out, and scored on a single by Juan Santana to give Greeneville an insurance run.

Prospect watch:  Romy Jimenez was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Logan Wade was 1-for-3.
