Minor Details: Games of 8/14

The Rock Cats get Decked.  Solid pitching by Taylor Rogers and Tim Atherton.  Pedro Hernandez continues his rehab in the GCL.

BUFFALO 8, ROCHESTER 3 IN BUFFALO

Batting star:  Jeff Clement was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching star:  Liam Hendriks pitched six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four.

Opposition stars:  Kyle Drabek retired all nine batters he faced, striking out three.  Ricardo Nanita was 2-for-4 with two doubles and scored twice.  Moises Sierra was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Bisons led 4-3 when they scored four to put the game away.  A single, an error, and a passed ball put runners on second and third with two out.  Sierra hit a three-run homer, Nanita doubled, and Sean Ochinko hit an RBI single to make it 8-3.

Prospect watch:  Eduardo Escobar was 1-for-3 with a double and a hit-by-pitch and scored once.  Chris Parmelee was 1-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Josmil Pinto was 0-for-4.  Darin Mastroianni was 0-for-2 with a walk.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 7, NEW BRITAIN 2 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Dan Rohlfing was 2-for-3 with a home run, his first.  Danny Santana was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  B. J. Hermsen pitched five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and two walks.  Jose Gonzalez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and one walk with one strikeout.  Ryan O'Rourke pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Deck McGuire pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks with six strikeouts.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Rock Cats had scored in the fifth, cutting a 2-0 deficit to 2-1, when the Fisher Cats struck for four.  A single and two walks led to the bases loaded with two out.  John Tolisano delivered a three-run double, followed by a Kenny Wilson RBI single to make it 6-1.

Prospect watch:  Eddie Rosario was 0-for-4.  Miguel Sano was 0-for-4.

ST. LUCIE 4, FORT MYERS 3 IN ST. LUCIE

Batting stars:  Byron Buxton was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Stephen Wickens was 1-for-2 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching star:  Taylor Rogers pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Dustin Lawley was 3-for-4 with a home run and scored twice.  Robbie Shields was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Domingo Tapia pitched five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Mets trailed 3-2.  Lawley led off with a single.  With one out, consecutive singles by Rylan Sandoval, Robbie Shields, and Shields brought home two runs and ended the game.  The damage came off Tyler Jones in his second inning of work.

Prospect watch:  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-4.  Mike Kvasnicka was 0-for-4.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, BELOIT 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting star:  Jeremias Pineda was 1-for-2 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Tim Atherton struck out eleven in eight innings, giving up two unearned runs on two hits and no walks.  Mason Melotakis pitched a perfect perfect inning, striking out the side.

Opposition stars:  Derek De Young struck out six in six innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk.  Daniel Robertson was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The score was tied at two.  Jorge Polanco singled, Max Kepler walked, Travis Harrison got a bunt single to load the bases, and Tyler Grimes singled in the winning run.

Prospect watch:  Polanco was 1-for-4 and scored once.  Kepler was 0-for-3 with a walk.

ELIZABETHTON 4, DANVILLE 3 IN DANVILLE

Batting stars:  Mitch Garver was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Zach Larson was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Zach Granite was 2-for-4 with a triple and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Tanner Mendonca struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.  Brandon Peterson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and no walks and striking out two.

Opposition stars:  Bryan De La Rosa was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Alejandro Piloto was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Victor Reyes was 2-for-5 with a double and scored once.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Braves trailed 4-2.  A walk and two singles gave Danville the bases loaded with none out.  A sacrifice fly made it 4-3.  The next batter hit into a force out at the plate and a fly out ended the inning.  C. K. Irby worked himself both into and out of trouble in the inning.

Prospect watch:  Randy Rosario started and pitched four innings, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks with one strikeout.

GCL RAYS 7, GCL TWINS 1 AT RAYS

Batting star:  Alex Swim was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once.

Pitching star:  Pedro Hernandez, on a rehab assignment, struck out four in four shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Clayton Henning was 3-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Jose Alonzo struck out five in 5.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits and no walks.  Eric Fredrick pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.

Key inning:  The fifth.  It was a scoreless tie.  In the top of the inning, Swim singled, went to second on a ground out, and scored on a double by Jason Kanzler.  In the bottom of the inning, Adam Pendleton and Jeremy Hadley singled and a balk moved them to second and third.  Henning then drove in both runners with a single-and-error to put the Rays in the lead.  The runs came off Leonel Zazueta, who came in to start the inning.

Prospect watch:  Amaurys Minier was 0-for-2.  Adonis Pacheco was 0-for-2.
