Fall Festival: Games of 10/9

Blowout day.  Only one Twin played.  But no ties.

MESA 13, GLENDALE 3 IN MESA

Twins:  Eddie Rosario was 1-for-5.

Glendale:  Travis Mattair (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run.  Jared Mitchell (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a home run.

Mesa:  Albert Almora (Cubs) was 4-for-5 with a double and a home run, scoring three times and driving in three.  Kris Bryant (Cubs) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a three-run homer.  Sammy Solis (Washington) pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk and striking out two.

The game:  Mesa scored four in the first, three in the second, and four in the fourth to take an 11-0 lead.

SURPRISE 9, PEORIA 5 IN PEORIA

Surprise:  Mitch Haniger (Milwaukee) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in three.  Mookie Betts (Boston) was 3-for-6, scoring three times and driving in one.  Michael Ohlman (Baltimore) was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a home run, scoring twice.

Peoria:  Jorge Bonifacio (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice.  Matt Heidenreich pitched three shutout innings, allowing no hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Peoria led 2-0 after four when Surprise scored three in the top of the fifth.  Peoria tied it in the bottom of the fifth but Surprise got three more in the sixth to take a 6-3 lead.  Peoria made it 6-5 in the seventh.  In the eighth, Surprise put together another three-run inning highlighted by a two-run homer by Travis Shaw to put the game away.

SALT RIVER 12, SCOTTSDALE 2 IN SCOTTSDALE

Salt River:  Andy Burns (Toronto) was 3-for-6, scoring twice and driving in one.  James Ramsey (St. Louis) was 2-for-5 with a walk and a three-run homer, scoring twice.  Grayson Garvin (Tampa Bay) struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.

Scottsdale:  Alex Dickerson (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  The score was 5-2 after seven when Salt River scored six in the eighth.  Ramsey's three-run homer came in that inning.  Salt River drew three walks and also got the benefit of an error, a wild pitch, and a passed ball.
