Fall Festival: Games of 10/17

Two Twins pitchers do well.

GLENDALE 6, SALT RIVER 0 IN SALT RIVER

Twins:  Max Kepler was 0-for-2 with two walks.  Zack Jones struck out one in a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and one walk.  A. J. Achter pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Glendale:  Corey Seager (Dodgers) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Brent Keys (Miami) was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Stephen McCray (White Sox) pitched four perfect innings with two strikeouts.

Salt River:  Mike Montgomery (Tampa Bay) struck out four in two perfect innings.

The game:  Glendale scored two in the second, three in the third, and one in the fourth.  Seager hit a two-run ground-rule double in the third and came around to score the third run of the inning.

SURPRISE 10, SCOTTSDALE 5 IN SURPRISE

Scottsdale:  Tommy LaStella (Atlanta) was 2-for-2 with three walks and a double, scoring once.  Peter O'Brien (Yankees) was 2-for-5 with two homers, his second and third.  Hansel Robles (Mets) struck out four in three innings, giving up one run on two hits and one walk.

Surprise:  Brett Nicholas (Texas) was 2-for-3 with two triples, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jorge Alfaro (Texas) was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in one.

The game:  Scottsdale scored once in the top of the sixth to go ahead 3-1.  Surprise responded with six in the bottom of the sixth, with Jonathan Schoop (Baltimore) contributing a two-run homer in the inning.  Scottsdale cut the lead to 7-5 in the top of the eight, but Surprise responded with three, including a two-run homer by Travis Shaw (Boston).

MESA 6, PEORIA 1 IN MESA

Peoria:  Keyvius Sampson (San Diego) struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up no hits and two walks.

Mesa:  C. J. Cron (Angels) was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.  Brian Goodwin (Washington) was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Matt Purke (Washington) struck out seven in four shutout innings, allowing no hits and one walk.

The game:  Leading 2-0, Mesa scored four in the fourth to put the game out of reach.  Cron and Matt Skole (Washington) hit back-to-back homers to start the inning, and Tyler Collins (Detroit) later hit a two-run homer.  The lone Peoria run came in the sixth.
