Mexican League: Games of 10/30

Two close games, one blowout.  The Fantastic Mr. Fox leads Los Mochis.

CULIACAN 2, OBREGON 1 IN OBREGON

Culiacan:  Andres Meza struck out five in 5.1 innings, giving up one run on six hits and one walk.

Obregon:  Karim Garcia was 2-for-4 with a double.  Rolando Valdez pitched six innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Culiacan scored one in the first; Obregon answered with one in the fifth.  In the seventh, a walk, a single, and an infield out plated the go-ahead run.  Obregon put runners on first and third with one out, but the last two batters fanned to end the game.

MEXICALI 4, NAVOJOA 3 IN MEXICALI

Navojoa:  Rolando Acosta was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once.  Rodrigo Aguirre was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Jose Manuel Lopez struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up two hits and three walks.

Mexicali:  Ricky Alvarez was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, his third.  Luis Suarez was 2-for-3 with two walks and a triple, scoring once.  Terry Doyle (Boston) struck out nine in six innings, allowing one run on six hits and three walks.

The game:  Navojoa scored one in the first, but Mexicali got two in the second to take the lead and added an insurance run in the fifth.  Navojoa tied it in the eighth with RBI singles by Aguirre and Fernando Flores.  Mexicali opened the ninth with a pair of walks and moved the runners up with a bunt.  An intentional walk loaded the bases and an accidental walk brought home the winning run.

LOS MOCHIS 12, MAZATLAN 4 IN MAZATLAN

Los Mochis:  Jake Fox (Arizona) was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Yancarlo Angulo was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run, scoring twice and driving in three.  Jesus Avila was 2-for-5 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in two.

Mazatlan:  Oswaldo Morejon was 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in one.  Ryan Mulhern was 2-for-5.

The game:  Mazatlan scored one in the second, but Los Mochis got six in the third to take control.  Avila drove in two with a double and Angulo had a two-run single in the inning.  Mazatlan got single runs in the fourth and fifth to make it 6-3, but a three-run sixth by Los Mochis put the game out of reach.
