Venezuelan View: Games of 10/31

Antoan Richardson has a good day.  Dakota Watts saves it for Aragua.  A successful campaign for Mayora.

MARGARITA 3, MAGALLANES 1 IN MARGARITA

Twins:  Antoan Richardson (Margarita) was 2-for-2 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.

Magallanes:  Eliezer Alfonzo (Dodgers) was 1-for-3 with a home run.

Margarita:  David Peralta (Arizona) was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.  Eric Berger (Houston) pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  Margarita scored single runs in the first, second, and sixth.  The lone Magallanes run came in the eighth.  Magallanes had only three hits.

ARAGUA 4, ZULIA 2 IN ZULIA

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Ray Olmedo (Aragua) was 2-for-4.  Jermaine Mitchell (Aragua) was 1-for-4.  Edgar Ibarra (Aragua) pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up three hits but no walks.  Dakota Watts (Aragua) retired the only man he faced to get the save.  Virgil Vasquez (Zulia) started and pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Aragua:  Hector Gimenez was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third) and three RBIs.  Luis Hernandez (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Carlos Hernandez (Oakland) pitched 5.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Zulia:  Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double.  Henry Rodriguez (Cincinnati) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Ender Inciarte (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.

The game:  Aragua scored two in the fourth and one in the fifth to go ahead 3-0.  Zulia came back in the seventh on RBI singles by Ali Castillo (Yankees) and Inciarte to make it 3-2.  Aragua got an insurance run in the eighth on a single by Luis Hernandez.  Zulia got runners on second and third with two out in the ninth.

CARACAS 6, LA GUAIRA 4 IN CARACAS

La Guaira:  Cesar Suarez was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Jose Martinez (Atlanta) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Tyson Brummett (Toronto) pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

Caracas:  Bobby Abreu (remember him?) was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Luis Rodriguez (Angels) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third) and two runs.  Yoanner Negrin (Cubs) pitched 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Caracas scored once in the sixth on a Rodriguez home run to take a 2-1 lead.  La Guaira came back in the seventh, tying the score on an RBI single by Suarez and getting another run on an infield out to go ahead 3-2.  In the bottom of the seventh, Daniel Mayora hit a two-run homer to give Caracas a 4-3 lead and Danny Dorn (Detroit) homered to make it 5-3.  Caracas added an insurance run in the eighth.  La Guaira got one in the ninth and loaded the bases with one out, but a strikeout and a fly out ended the game.
