Mexican Matchups: Games of 11/1

A seven-pitcher shutout in Los Mochis.  Late-inning runs for Culiacan.  The bullpen takes control for Obregon.

OBREGON 4, HERMOSILLO 3 IN HERMOSILLO

Obregon:  Donald Lutz was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Dan Robertson was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Hermosillo:  Jerry Owens was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Jesse Gutierrez was 2-for-4 with a run.

The game:  Obregon got two in the third to take a 2-0 lead, but Hermosillo tied it with two in the fifth.  In the sixth, Agustin Murillo hit an RBI double to give Obregon the lead and a passed ball plated an insurance run.  It was needed, because Hermosillo got one in the bottom of the sixth on a walk, a single, and a sacrifice fly.  Hermosillo did not get a hit after the sixth inning.

MEXICALI 4, LOS MOCHIS 0 IN LOS MOCHIS

Mexicali:  Kevin Kouzmanoff (Miami) was 2-for-4 with a double.  Chris Roberson was 2-for-4 with two runs.  Edgar Osuna struck out seven in five innings, giving up three hits and two walks.

Los Mochis:  Brian Burgamy was 2-for-4 with two doubles.

The game:  Mexicali got the only run it would need in the first inning on a sacrifice fly.  Mexicali scored three more in the seventh on a sacrifice fly and a two-run homer by Daniel Hinojosa to take control.

CULIACAN 7, MAZATLAN 2 IN CULIACAN

Mazatlan:  Henry Mateo was 3-for-5 with a double.  Issmael Salas was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Walter Silva struck out six in seven innings, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks.

Culiacan:  Luis Cruz was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Amauri Sanit pitched seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  Mazatlan scored single runs in the fourth and fifth to take a 2-0 lead.  In the sixth, an RBI single by Cruz and a two-run homer by Emmanuel Valdez gave Culiacan a 3-2 lead.  Culiacan put it away with four in the eighth, getting RBI doubles by Cruz and Ali Solis (Pittsburgh).
