Dominican Digest: Games of November 3

Decent days for a pair of Twins.  Free baseball in Este.

LICEY 5, ESCOGIDO 2 IN ESCOGIDO

Twins:  Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Deibinson Romero (Escogido) was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run.

Licey:  Jordany Valdespin (Mets) was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring once.  Yamaico Navarro (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Chris Volstad pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and one walk.

Escogido:  Jarrett Grube (Angels) pitched four shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks with one strikeout.

The game:  It was scoreless until the fifth, when a passed ball and a Navarro single plated two to make it 2-0 Licey.  Licey added two more in the seventh on a two-run single by Juan Francisco and got one more in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.  Both Escogido runs came in the ninth.  Escogido got the tying run up to bat with two out.

ORIENTE 3, ESTE 2 IN ESTE (10 INNINGS)

Oriente:  Mario Mercedes was 2-for-4.  Greg Smith (Philadelphia) pitched six innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

Este:  Jose Ramirez (Cleveland) was 3-for-5 with a double and two runs.  Eugenio Velez (Milwaukee) was 3-for-4.  Mike Marbry (Colorado) retired all seven batters he faced, striking out two.

The game:  Oriente scored in the first on an infield out.  Este got on the board in the fourth on a squeeze bunt.  Oriente took the lead back in the fifth on an Audy Ciriaco (Miami) homer, but Este tied it in the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice fly.  Junior Lake (Cubs) hit an RBI single in the tenth to put Oriente ahead to stay.
