Mexican Matchups: Games of 11/2

A five-pitcher shutout for Los Mochis.  Culiacan Cruzes to victory.  A blow-out in Navojoa.

LOS MOCHIS 2, MEXICALI 0 IN LOS MOCHIS

Mexicali:  Javier Martinez pitched 5.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Los Mochis:  Sergio Perez was 3-for-4.  Yancarlo Angulo was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run (his second), scoring twice.  Marco Quevedo pitched six innings, allowing two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Angulo homered in the fifth to give Los Mochis a 1-0 lead.  A bases-loaded walk produced a second run in the seventh.  The closest Mexicali came to scoring was in the third, when they got two one-out singles.

CULIACAN 4, MAZATLAN 2 IN CULIACAN

Mazatlan:  Henry Mateo was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.

Culiacan:  Alex Liddi (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Ali Solis (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Omar Espinoza struck out seven in five innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and no walks.

The game:  Mazatlan scored one in the second, a lead which held up until the fifth.  That was when Luis Cruz hit a bases-clearing two-out double to give Culiacan a 3-1 lead.  Mazatlan got an RBI single from Issmael Salas in the eighth to cut the lead to 3-2, but Culiacan got the run back in the bottom of the eighth on a Liddi homer.

HERMOSILLO 5, OBREGON 2 IN HERMOSILLO

Obregon:  Agustin Murillo was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run.  Marco Carrillo pitched six innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Hermosillo:  Jerry Owens was 3-for-5 with a triple and a run.  Heber Gomez was 2-for-3 with a double and a run.  Juan Oramas (San Diego) struck out five in five shutout innings, allowing two hits and three walks.

The game:  Efren Navarro (Angels) hit a three-run homer in the first to give Hermosillo a 3-0 lead.  It stayed 3-0 until the eighth, when Obregon got a two-run homer by Barbaro Canizares to make it 3-2.  In the bottom of the eighth, Hermosillo got the runs back on a squeeze bunt and an error.

NAVOJOA 10, GUASAVE 4 IN NAVOJOA

Guasave:  Jesus Cota was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run.  Leonardo Heras was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Navojoa:  Luis Fonseca was 3-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jon Weber was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Delwyn Young was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Navojoa scored three in the first, four in the second, and three in the fourth to take a 10-1 lead.
