Australian Audit: Games of November 2

Harman goes deep twice.  Five-run innings rule the day for Sydney.  Everybody plays a doubleheader on the third day of the season!

BRISBANE 3, ADELAIDE 2 IN BRISBANE (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Twins:  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 1-for-3 with a double.

Adelaide:  Chris Adamson (San Diego) was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.  Blake Holovach (Seattle) struck out four in five shutout innings, giving up four hits and two walks.

Brisbane:   Joey Rickard (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his second.  Andrew Campbell (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Craig Goodman struck out five in six innings, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk.

The game:  Adamson hit a two-run homer in the first inning.  The 2-0 lead held up until the sixth, when a walk, a hit batsman, and two more walks put Brisbane on the board.  In the seventh, Rickard homered to tie the score and Tyler Goeddel (Tampa Bay) singled in the winning run with one out.

BRISBANE 4, ADELAIDE 0 IN BRISBANE (GAME 2)

Twins:  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Adelaide:  Nick Talbot struck out four in 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and two walks.

Brisbane:  Brad Dutton was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Casey Barnes pitched five innings, allowing three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Wade had an RBI single in the second inning to put Brisbane ahead and a ground out plated a second run in the second.  Brisbane went on to score single runs in the third and sixth.  Adelaide loaded the bases in the first and sixth and left ten men on base, going 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

CANBERRA 6, MELBOURNE 5 IN CANBERRA (GAME 1--8 INNINGS--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Melbourne:  Ryan Casteel (Oakland) was 3-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Jared Schlehuber (Kansas City) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Brad Harman was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Canberra:  Robbie Perkins (Colorado) was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and two runs.

The game:  Canberra scored three in the first, which stood up until Melbourne got three in the fifth.  It stayed tied until the eighth, when a pair of RBI singles put Melbourne ahead 5-3.  In the bottom of the eighth, a force out, a bases-loaded walk, and a sacrifice fly plated three runs and gave Canberra the victory.

MELBOURNE 7, CANBERRA 6 IN CANBERRA (GAME 2)

Melbourne:  Brad Harman was 3-for-5 with two home runs.  Ryan Casteel (Oakland) was 2-for-5 with a double.  Scott Wearne was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Canberra:  Jack Murphy (Toronto) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Robbie Perkins (Colorado) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.  Michael Wells was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The game:  Canberra scored two in the fourth to go ahead 4-3, but Melbourne tied it in the fifth and scored two in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead.  Canberra came back with single runs in the seventh and eighth to tie it.  In the ninth, Harman hit his second homer of the game to give Melbourne a 7-6 advantage.  Canberra got two on in the bottom of the ninth, but a double play ended the game.

SYDNEY 5, PERTH 4 IN PERTH (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Sydney:  Jacob May (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a run.

Perth:  Brandon Tripp was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run (his second), driving in three.  Tucker Nathans was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Jesse Barron was 2-for-3.

The game:  Tripp hit a two-run homer to cap a three-run first and give Perth a 3-0 lead.  It stayed that way until the sixth, when Sydney scored five times.  Trent Oeltjen (Angels) doubled in one, a run scored on a passed ball, Joshua Dean singled to bring in the tying run, and two runs scored on an error.  Perth got one back in the seventh and had two on with one out.

SYDNEY 7, PERTH 2 IN PERTH (GAME 2)

Sydney:  Trent D'Antonio (Miami) was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs.  Connor Whalen pitched five innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Perth:  Matt Dixon was 2-for-4.  Tucker Nathans was 2-for-5.

The game:  Sydney led 2-1 after two.  It stayed there until the eighth, when Sydney scored five times.  A wild pitch scored one, an error scored two more, an RBI single by Jacob May (White Sox) brought home one more, and Keon Broxton (Arizona) capped the inning with an RBI double.
