Mexican Matchups: Games of 11/15

Close games and good pitching performances.  Jose Aguilar comes through for Hermosillo.  Strong pitching by Javier Solano leads Mexicali.

NAVOJOA 2, LOS MOCHIS 1 IN NAVOJOA

Los Mochis:  Jamie Johnson (Detroit) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Thomas Melgarejo struck out seven in five shutout innings, giving up five hits and two walks.

Navojoa:  Carlos Orrantia was 3-for-3 with a triple.  Alejandro Gonzalez was 2-for-3.  Hector Velazquez pitched six innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  All the runs scored in the sixth inning.  Jake Fox doubled in Johnson with the Los Mochis run.  In the bottom of the inning, RBI singles by Diego Madero and Alan Sanchez put Navajoa in the lead.  Los Mochis did not get a man past first base the rest of the game.

HERMOSILLO 4, OBREGON 3 IN HERMOSILLO

Obregon:  Doug Clark was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Carlos Valencia was 2-for-4 with a run.

Hermosillo:  Jose Aguilar was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Carlos Gastelum was 2-for-4.

The game:  Jesse Gutierrez hit a two-run homer in the first to give Hermosillo a 2-0 lead.  Clark's two-run double led to a three-run fourth for Obregon, putting the team ahead 3-2.  A pair of two-out walks and an Aguilar RBI single tied the score.  It remained tied until the seventh, when Aguilar doubled, went to third on a Gastelum single, and scored on a sacrifice fly.  Obregon could not get a man into scoring position after that.

CULIACAN 5, GUASAVE 3 IN GUASAVE

Culiacan:  Sergio Gastelum was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Johan Limonta was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Rodrigo Lopez pitched five innings, giving up one run on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Guasave:  Jesus Lopez was 3-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once.  Eduardo Arredondo was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Sergio Mora pitched 3.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  A one-out homer was followed by three singles, a walk, and another single, leading to four runs and a 4-0 Culiacan lead.  It was 5-1 after four.  Guasave scored two in the seventh but could not get the tying run on base.

MEXICALI 3, MAZATLAN 0 IN MEXICALI

Mazatlan:  Mauricio Lara pitched five shutout innings, giving up five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Mexicali:  Gil Velazquez (Miami) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Ben Guez (Detroit) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Javier Solano pitched 6.2 innings, allowing three hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  It was scoreless until the seventh, when Guez delivered a two-run single.  Velazquez doubled in a run in the eighth.  Mazatlan had four hits, all singles, and never had more than one man on base at a time.
