A fourth inning grand slam put Ponce in control.  Carolina scored nine and still lost by two touchdowns.

PONCE 5, MAYAGUEZ 1 IN MAYAGUEZ

Twins:  Dereck Rodriguez (Mayaguez) was used as a reserve and was 0-for-1.  Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 1-for-4.

Ponce:  Henry Ramos (Boston) was 3-for-4 with a grand slam (his second homer) and five RBIs.  Reymond Fuentes (San Diego) was 3-for-5 with a double.  Ryuji Ichioka pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks and striking out five.

Mayaguez:  Luis Collazo struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks.

The game:  A single and two walks preceded a two-out grand slam by Ramos in the fourth, and the game was never close again.  Ponce added one in the sixth.  The lone Mayaguez run came in the eighth.

CAGUAS 22, CAROLINA 9 IN CAROLINA

Twins:  Jorge Fernandez (Carolina) was used as a reserve and was 0-for-1.

Caguas:  Johnny Monell (San Francisco) was 4-for-6 with a walk and a home run (his third), driving in four.  Luis Montanez was 3-for-6 with a walk, two doubles, and a grand slam, scoring twice and driving in six.  Kristopher Negron (Cincinnati) was 3-for-4 with a walk and a triple, scoring four times and driving in two.

The game:  Caguas scored seven runs in the second to take an 8-1 lead.  At various points, Caguas led 14-1, 14-5, 19-5, and 19-8.
