Mexican Matchups: Games of 11/21

Big innings abound, including an eight-run inning.  Burgamy goes to Trigamy.  Martinez was Abel to lead Navojoa.

MEXICALI 7, GUASAVE 4 IN MEXICALI

Guasave:  Zelous Wheeler (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with a run.  Gabriel Gutierrez was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jose Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Mexicali:  Xorge Carrillo (Mets) was 2-for-3 with a double.  Oscar Robles was 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs.  Chris Roberson was 1-for-3 with a home run (his eighth) and four RBIs.

The game:  A six-run fifth gave Mexicali a 7-0 lead.  Roberson hit a three-run homer in the inning.  Guasave tried to come back, scoring three in the seventh and leaving the bases loaded, and getting one more run in the ninth.

NAVOJOA 10, MAZATLAN 2 IN MAZATLAN

Navojoa:  Abel Martinez was 3-for-4 with a grand slam and five RBIs.  Genaro Andrade was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Hector Velazquez struck out six in six innings, giving up one run on four hits and one walk.

Mazatlan:  Mike Wilson (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, driving in two.  Julio Montoya struck out four in four innings of relief, allowing one run on six hits and no walks.  Gaudencio Aguirre struck out three in three perfect innings.

The game:  Leading 2-1, Navojoa put together an eight-run inning in the third to take control of the game.  Delwyn Young hit a two-run single and Martinez hit a grand slam.  The first eight batters of the inning reached base and all eight runs were scored before anyone was out.

LOS MOCHIS 16, OBREGON 6 IN LOS MOCHIS

Obregon:  Alfredo Amezaga was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Barbaro Canizares was 2-for-5 with two runs.

Los Mochis:  Brian Burgamy was 3-for-4 with a walk and three home runs (his eighth, ninth, and tenth), driving in five.  Roberto Lopez (Angels) was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run (his second), scoring twice and driving in three.  Jamie Johnson (Detroit) was 2-for-3 with three walks and two doubles, scoring twice and driving in three.

The game:  Carlos Valencia hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give Obregon a 5-4 lead.  That was the last time Obregon was in the game.  Los Mochis scored six in the bottom of the fifth, with Burgamy hitting a home run and Johnson a two-run double.  It was 10-6 after six, but Los Mochis scored six more in the seventh as Lopez hit a two-run homer and Burgamy a three-run homer.
