PONCE 4, MAYAGUEZ 2 IN PONCE
Twins: Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 0-for-4. Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 1-for-3 with a double. Josue Montanez (Ponce) pitched only one-third of an inning, giving up two runs on three hits and no walks.
Mayaguez: Randy Ruiz was 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.
Ponce: Jordan Lennerton was 3-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two. Rubi Silva was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in one. Yuki Egarashi pitched six shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks with five strikeouts.
The game: Lennerton singled in a run to give Ponce a 1-0 lead in the first. Christian Colon (Kansas City) singled in Lennerton in the fourth to make it 2-0, and doubles by Silva and Lennerton made it 4-0 in the fifth. Both Mayaguez runs scored in the seventh. They had the bases loaded in the seventh with one out, but the next two batters fanned and Mayaguez never got another man into scoring position.
SANTURCE 4, CAGUAS 3 IN SANTURCE
Caguas: Andy Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer, his second. John Brownell pitched six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Santurce: Neftali Soto (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a double. Billy Hamilton (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, his eleventh. Jack Lopez (Kansas City) was 2-for-4.
The game: Santurce scored two in the second on an RBI single by Hamilton and an error. Caguas got all three of its runs on the Gonzalez three-run homer in the sixth. In the seventh, Santurce again scored two on an RBI single by Hamilton and an error. Caguas got runners on second and third with one out in the ninth, but a pair of groundouts to third base ended the game.
