A bad day for Sam Gibbons.  A cycle for Casey Frawley.  A football score in Melbourne.

Twins:  Sam Gibbons (Melbourne) started and pitched 2.1 innings, giving up seven runs (six earned) on six hits and three walks with one strikeout.

Canberra:  Casey Frawley hit for the cycle-plus:  he was 5-for-6 with a single, two doubles, a triple, and a home run (his third), scoring four times and driving in four.  Mike Crouse (Toronto) was 5-for-6 with a two-run homer and scored twice.  Shane Opitz (Toronto) was 3-for-6 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in four.

Melbourne:  Scott Wearne was 2-for-6 with a double and a home run, scoring three times and driving in two.  Jared Schlehuber (Kansas City) was 2-for-5 with a home run (his second) and four RBIs.  Justin Huber was 3-for-5 and scored twice.

The game:  Canberra led 4-2 after one, Melbourne was up 5-4 after two, and it was tied at eight after three.  Frawley tripled and scored in the fourth to put Canberra ahead 9-8.  It stayed that way until the seventh, when each team scored three, leaving Canberra ahead 12-11.  Ryan Casteel (Oakland) hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to give Melbourne a 13-12 lead, but thirteen was unlucky for Melbourne, as Canberra scored six in the ninth to take the lead to stay.  A two-run homer by Opitz gave Canberra the lead and they eventually got four insurance runs.  Melbourne put runners on second and third with one out in the ninth, but could not score.

PERTH 3, SYDNEY 1 IN SYDNEY

Perth:  Brandon Tripp was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Luke Hughes was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Daniel Schmidt pitched seven innings, giving up one run on six hits and one walk with six strikeouts.

Sydney:  Jacob May (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Guy Edmonds was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Aaron Sookee (Angels) struck out six in six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk.

The game:  Each team scored in the first.  It stayed tied until the fifth, when with two out two singles and a walk loaded the bases and Joey Wong singled in two.  Sydney got only one hit after that and did not send more than three men to the plate in any inning.
