Venezuelan View: Games of 12/15

A late rally put away a win for Zulia.  Jesus brings victory to Caracas.  Lisson to the sound of a win in Magallanes.

ANZOATEGUI 7, LA GUAIRA 5 IN LA GUAIRA

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Shairon Martis (La Guaira) pitched one inning, giving up one run on no hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Anzoategui:  Cory Aldridge was 4-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in three.  Jose Castillo was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.  Gustavo Molina was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

La Guaira:  Salvador Perez (Kansas City) was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Anthony Gose (Toronto) was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  C. J. Retherford was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

The game:  Anzoategui got two in the fourth, but La Guaira took the lead with four in the fifth.  A two-run double by Perez drove in the tying and go-ahead runs.  Anzoategui got single runs in the sixth and seventh to tie it, but La Guaira went back in front in the bottom of the seventh on Retherford's RBI single.  In the ninth, however, Aldridge delivered a two-out two-run double to give Anzoategui the lead and Jose Castillo singled to drive in an insurance run.  La Guaira got the tying run up to bat with two out in the ninth.

ZULIA 9, ARAGUA 1 IN ARAGUA

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Miguel Sulbaran (Zulia) retired both men he faced, striking out one.  Dakota Watts (Aragua) walked the only man he faced.  Edgar Ibarra (Aragua) pitched one inning, giving up one run on no hits but two walks.

Zulia:  Ender Inciarte (Arizona) was 2-for-5 with a double and a triple, scoring once.  Ernesto Mejia (Atlanta) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Alex Torres (Tampa Bay) pitched six innings, giving up one run on four hits and three hits and four walks with four strikeouts.

Aragua:  Hector Gimenez was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Yohan Pino pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

The game:  Each team scored in the fourth.  Zulia took the lead in the seventh on a pair of bases-loaded walks.  They added on in the eighth and put the game out of reach with five in the ninth.  The ninth inning featured a two-run triple by Jose Flores.

CARACAS 5, MARGARITA 3 IN MARGARITA (11 INNINGS)

Caracas:  Jesus Aguilar (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Bobby Abreu was 2-for-5 with a walk and a double, driving in one.   Gerardo Parra (Arizona) was 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs.

Margarita:  Breyvic Valera (St. Louis) was 2-for-4 with a walk and two triples, scoring once and driving in one.  Nate Tenbrink (Seattle) was 2-for-5 with a walk and a triple, scoring once.  Manny Corpas struck out two in two shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks.

The game:  Valera tripled and scored in the second to give Margarita a 1-0 lead.  They still led 2-1 after five, but in the sixth an RBI single by Aguilar tied it and a run-scoring double by Abreu put Caracas ahead 3-2.  In the bottom of the sixth, a single-and-error by Carlos Rivero tied the score.  There were no more tallies until the eleventh, when Jesus Guzman (San Diego) delivered a two-run single.  Margarita brought the tying run up to bat with two out in the bottom of the eleventh.

MAGALLANES 13, LARA 2 IN MAGALLANES

Lara:  Anderson De La Rosa was 2-for-3 with a run.  Carlos Vasquez pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Magallanes:  Mario Lisson was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run (his thirteenth), scoring twice and driving in four.  Lew Ford was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring twice and driving in three.  David Bromberg struck out six in six innings, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks.

The game:  Lisson's two-run double put Magallanes ahead 3-0 in the first inning.  They scored two in the second and two in the third to build the lead to 7-0.  Lara got two in the sixth, but Magallanes put the game away with six in the eighth.
