Dominican Digest: Games of 12/30

Day four of the playoffs.  Miguel Olivo uses his speed.  A big comeback for Aguilas.

ESCOGIDO 2, CIBAO 0 IN ESCOGIDO

Twins:  Deibinson Romero (Escogido) was used on defense but did not bat.  Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 0-for-3.  Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was 0-for-3 with a run.

Cibao:  Marcell Ozuna (Miami) was 2-for-3 with a double, the only hits Cibao got.  Manauris Baez pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Escogido:  Jose Constanza (Atlanta) was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Miguel Olivo (Seattle) was 2-for-2 with a walk and a double, scoring once.  Graham Godfrey pitched five shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  Escogido scored both of its runs in the seventh.  With two out and none on, Olivo singled and stole second.  An error brought him home and Constanza doubled to bring home the second run.  Cibao's best scoring chance came in the sixth when Ozuna led off with a double, but he did not advance past second.

AGUILAS 14, LICEY 3 IN AGUILAS

Twins:  Dan Rohlfing (Licey) was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run.

Licey:  Juan Francisco (Milwaukee) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his second.  Engel Beltre (Texas) was 1-for-3 with an RBI.  Mitch Atkins (Atlanta) pitched five innings, giving up two runs on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Aguilas:  Ricardo Nanita was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run, scoring three times and driving in three.  Alex Valdez was 2-for-5 with a double and a home run, driving in four.  Brock Huntzinger (Baltimore) pitched three shutout innings, allowing no hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  Beltre's two-run single-and-error put Licey ahead 2-0 after two.  Francisco homered in the third to make it 3-0.  In the fifth, however, Aguilas started its comeback.  Juan Perez (San Francisco) hit a two-run homer to make it 3-2 after five.  Aguilas took the lead in the sixth on a two-run double by Joey Terdoslavich (Atlanta).  They got three more in the seventh on an RBI single by Nanita and a two-run single by Zoilo Almonte (Yankees) to go ahead 7-3, then scored seven in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  Valdez and Nanita each hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning.
