January 15-2, 2014: Cribbage Tournament

In case you missed it yesterday, I'll be running a cribbage tournament for the WGOM starting soon. If you want in, say so.

For those that have asked, we'll be using this site. It's free and I don't remember having any problems when I played with kg and another dude from my other site.

  1. Lou Nanne is going to chair a committee to raise $190 million for the University of Minnesota's athletic facilities. Lou:

I don’t care if you went to Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Robert Morris, North Dakota State, whatever it is. If you’re living in the state of Minnesota, you’re benefiting from the University of Minnesota in some way … [Athletics] creates emotions, and it touches a lot of people

Gotta tell ya, Lou, I might benefit from the University, but I'm pretty sure that the athletic department benefits me only in a way that you wouldn't really appreciate.

    1. I hope this doesn't end up as some awful "freemium" title with energy gauges or pay to unlock new pitches or whatever. I'm hoping for the best but planning for the worst.

      1. likewise. I imagine it won't have any of the charm of the original and be just a decent baseball game. I hope they go arcade all the way.

      1. Could someone please tell me what the story is behind "bears are cool"? Every time I see it, I think:

      1. I was disappointed. However, the whole thing had been blown up and I already knew the ending.
Sortof like the Beatles or Radiohead: I can appreciate the risks they took and they influenced a lot of things I do like, but I really don't like their records all that much.
Minute-for-minute, if I want to see groundbreaking cinema, I'd rather watch Snow White than Citizen Kane.

        1. I enjoyed The Rules of the Game quite a bit. Ebert compared There Will Be Blood to Citizen Kane, and I think that TWBB resonated more with me.

    1. I was holding out for Charlie Strong on the basis of "If Red McCombs is opposed, he's probably really good."

  2. I just noticed that Windy City of the Frontier League has a catcher named Zach Aakhus. That's a long way from the majors, but if he ever makes it, he'll break David Aardsma's record.

      1. just for funsies, look at his comps by age. Gary Nolan is his number 1 comp (per b-r) at age-25. Of course, Gary Nolan threw a grand total of 10 2/3 innings across his age-25 and age-26 seasons. He came back for two very good years at 27 and 28, but was done by age 29.

Kershaw's comp list is a wonderful combination of all-time greats, very goods, and Gary Nolans.

  3. So, the Boy accidentally took the mrs' credit card back to the Alma Mater. He Fed Exed it a week ago monday. It arrived yesterday, having spent a week in Tennessee for unexplained reasons. Good job, guys!

    1. It arrived yesterday, having spent a week in Tennessee for unexplained reasons.

It's called "weather", although a week is a little excessive. You're just going to get another one thanks to Target anyway.

      1. No, it was not "weather." It was royal screw-ups. They first tried to ship it to a non-existent address in Virginia (because VA zip codes look so much like CA zip codes), then it went to a service center and sat, even after MULTIPLE phone calls between us and them.

So far, we've escaped Targetscam. Knocking on wood.
