Australian Audit: Games of 1/16

Logan Wade has a key two-run double.  A big day for Allan de San Miguel.  Sydney shows Adelaide who's Boss.

PERTH 3, CANBERRA 1 IN CANBERRA

Perth:  Allan de San Miguel was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Joey Wong (Colorado) was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.  Jack Frawley pitched seven innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Canberra:  Jon Berti (Toronto) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Casey Frawley was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double.  Brian Grening struck out seven in 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on ten hits and no walks.

The game:  It was scoreless until the fifth, when a sacrifice fly and a Tucker Nathans (Baltimore) RBI double put Perth ahead 2-0.  In the sixth, Berti singled, stole second, and scored on two fly outs to cut the lead to 2-1.  Perth got the run back in the seventh when de San Miguel singled and scored on Wong's triple.  Canberra did not get a man past first base after that.

BRISBANE 6, MELBOURNE 4 IN MELBOURNE

Twins:  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Brisbane:  David Sutherland was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Justin O'Conner (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.  Ryan Battaglia (Cleveland) was 2-for-5 with a double and two runs.

Melbourne:  Ryan Casteel (Colorado) was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Darryl George (Tampa Bay) was 1-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Eric Marzek struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks.

The game:  Melbourne scored first, getting an RBI single from Brad Harman in the first inning.  Brisbane came back with a four-run fourth highlighted by a two-run double by Wade,  It was 5-1 after five and a half, but Melbourne came back with two in the sixth on RBI singles by Casteel and Justin Trapp (Kansas City) and one in the seventh on a George homer to make the score 5-4.  They got the tying run to third in the eighth but could do no more, and Brisbane got an insurance run in the ninth to end the scoring.

SYNDEY 8, ADELAIDE 1 IN SYDNEY

Sydney:  Boss Moanaroa was 3-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer, scoring three times.  Guy Edmonds was 2-for-3 with two walks and a double, driving in one.  Craig Anderson struck out five in 5.2 innings, giving up one run on ten hits and one walk.

Adelaide:  Stefan Welch (Boston) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a triple, scoring once.  Angus Roeger was 3-for-4.  Fu-Te Ni struck out three in 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk.

The game:  Moanaroa hit a two-run homer in the second to give Syndey a 2-0 lead.  It stayed 2-0 until the sixth, when Sydney scored three more times, getting a double, three walks, a single, and a sacrifice fly to go ahead 5-0.  Adelaide's lone run came in the bottom of the sixth when Welch tripled and scored.  Sydney added three in the ninth to put the game out of reach.
