Minor Details: Games of May 4

A huge day for Chris Parmelee.  Good pitching by Virgil Vasquez and Ryan Eades.  Byron Buxton makes his season debut.

ROCHESTER 12, LOUISVILLE 6 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Chris Parmelee was 3-for-5 with a double and two home runs (his sixth and seventh), scoring three times and driving in five.  Eduardo Nunez was 3-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.  Deibinson Romero was 1-for-2 with three walks and two runs.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Felix Perez was 2-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs.  Mike Costanzo was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his third.  Ruben Gotay was 2-for-5 with a home run (his sixth) and two runs.

The game:  Rochester scored six runs in the first and put the game away early.  Parmelee had a two-run homer and Doug Bernier had a two-run double-and-error in the inning.  Parmelee had another two-run homer in the second to make it 8-0.  A four-run fourth which included a two-run double by Dan Rohlfing made the score 12-2.

Of note:  Eric Farris was 2-for-5 with a run.  Wilkin Ramirez was 2-for-5 with a run.  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Bernier was 1-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Starter Alex Meyer failed to take advantage of all the runs, striking out five but lasting only 4.2 innings and surrendering four runs on five hits and three walks.  Matt Guerrier pitched two innings, giving up one run on three hits with one strikeout.

NEW BRITAIN 5, NEW HAMPSHIRE 2 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Nate Hanson was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Daniel Ortiz was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Virgil Vasquez pitched 7.1 innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks with one strikeout.  Adrian Salcedo struck out four in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition star:  Brad Glenn was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.

The game:  Once again the first inning told the story, as New Britain got four in the first.  Corey Wimberley tripled in the inning and Ortiz had an RBI double.  New Hampshire did not get a hit until the third and did not advance a man past first until the fifth, when they scord on Glenn's leadoff double and a pair of productive outs.  The Fisher Cats did threaten to get back into the game in the eighth.  Trailing 5-1, they got a single, an error, a walk, and another single to bring home one and load the bases with one out.  Salcedo came in and fanned the next two batters to end the inning.  New Hampshire again loaded the bases in the ninth, opening with a single and getting a two-out walk and a single, but a ground out ended the game.

Of note:  Wimberley was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-4 with a run.

BRADENTON 4, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting star:  Stuart Turner was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Jason Wheeler struck out five in 5.2 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk.  Steven Gruver struck out two in 2.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits.  Tyler Jones pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Jeff Roy was 3-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Walker Gourley was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Jason Creasy struck out six in 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and no walks.

The game:  Roy tripled and scored in the third to give Bradenton a 1-0 lead.  The Marauders started the fourth with three singles to make it 2-0.  Single runs in the sixth and seventh made it 4-0 Bradenton.  Both Fort Myers runs scored in the seventh on an RBI double by Turner and a run-scoring single by Jorge Polanco.  The Miracle did not get the tying run on base.

Of note:  Levi Michael was 0-for-3.  Polanco was 1-for-4.  Byron Buxton was 0-for-4.  Mike Gonzales was 1-for-4.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-4.  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with a run.

CEDAR RAPIDS 2, PEORIA 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  J. D. Williams was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Ivory Thomas was 0-for-1 with three walks and a run.  Bo Altobelli was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Ryan Eades struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.  Yorman Landa struck out four in three innings, giving up one hit.  Hudson Boyd pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Ronald Castillo was 2-for-4.  Rob Kaminsky pitched four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks.

The game:  Cedar Rapids scored in the second on a sacrifice fly and in third on a ground out.  It was enough.  Peoria did not get a man past second and only twice got a man as far as second.  In the third, a walk and a two-out single put men on first and second.  In the fifth, a walk and a stolen base put a man on second with one out.

Of note:  Chad Christensen was 0-for-4 with an RBI.  Zach Larson was 0-for-4.
