  1. Interesting

    Minnesota Twins (4222-4262 W-L, 1961 - 2014)
    Washington Senators (4223-4864 W-L, 1901 - 1960)
    Overall (8445-9126 W-L, 1901 - 2014)

2 more wins and the Twins will have more wins in Minnesota than in Washington.
also, who would have guess that as a franchise the Twins would only be 40 games below .500

  2. Great Twins game to attend last night. My friend ended up taking an Ortiz foul ball in the ribs. Good story to tell his kids!

    1. My mom got hit in the shin with a Captain Dreamboat batting practice homerun a few years ago.

      1. When I was in college (at the U of MN), I often went to the Dome when the doors opened and sat in the cheap seats in RF. One day, I was working on engineering homework and had my textbook on one leg and my graphing calculator and notebook on the other. I looked up and saw a ball incoming. Somehow, I managed to catch the ball without getting seriously injured or dropping any of my scholarly items onto the field.

I also got the ball signed by some scrubs named Mauer and Morneau after the game, which was pretty cool. They were the last ones out of the door. Earlier, I was debating whether I really wanted Kyle Loshe's autograph...

  3. I don't know if my pillow turned to stone in my sleep or what, but my neck is absolutely screaming this morning. Who knows a good masseuse?

    1. Buckwheat hull pillow for the win. You can get one in Scottsdale and save 11 dollars shipping.

        1. I was unsure it would solve my problem, but my back and neck have never felt better. Just four days into traveling I'm feeling stiffness in my neck and back.

          1. I have a (cheap) memory-foam contour pillow. Works pretty well to protect my neck.

            1. I second the memory foam pillow. I got a free one when I bought my mattress and I'm quite content.

              1. I've always been an authentic down pillow guy (can't beat the cool feeling of a down pillow), but I've been hearing interesting things about buckwheat hull pillows.

    2. Hot bath with epsom salts and a cup of Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar (this from my masseuse, Nancy). She says it helps your Ph balance.

  4. I had to explain yesterday to Skim and Sour Cream that my brother is getting divorced. This was every bit as tough as I thought it would be, for Skim in particular. My brother tried to tell her himself, but she thought he was kidding and didn't seem to understand that this kind of thing could happen in her family. The look of devastation on her face when I explained that Katy wouldn't be in our family anymore was pretty awful. I never really went through that as a kid, where someone was just out of my family. My mom's sister got divorced but it was before I was old enough to notice...well, anything. My own parents got divorced, but I didn't "lose" anyone.

    1. Yea, abandonment fears are not uncommon with little kids. That's tough. Good luck soothing those fears and feelings.

      1. Been there recently. My best friend recently got a divorce and this past winter got remarried. Somewhat difficult going through that conversation with the kids, but we've worked through it. Reassured them that neither their mother nor I were going anywhere anytime soon.

And strangely enough, I am also the product of a divorce. Though they did it very early in my life and I grew up not really knowing any different.

  5. For the first time since H was born, all of us have the same GI virus. Any advice from previous sufferers?

    1. 1. Curse the gods that visited this plague upon you
      2. Beg said gods for forgiveness
      3. Call a relative or good friend in town and ask for help (be sure to sound very pathetic on the phone)

    2. If you see intestines, stuff them back in.
Also, Pedialyte. Or Gatorade or similar.

      1. He's been a trooper with Pedialyte. Just don't know how to parent from the bathroom.

  6. A smart ass friend of mine from Chicago shared the Wild's "new logo" on Facebook. Wouldn't give him a thumbs up there, but I have to admit it is pretty funny.

    1. Started Kernel's 529 in February and have seen 3 straight months of 'losses' in value...I know it's a long term vehicle, but not a very auspicious start. #itssixteenyearsawayfromhappening

      1. "losses" is the right attitude. Those are paper losses, likely. 16 years is a good time horizon for making the bet that the market will provide you with solid investment gains.

  7. The secret of Posnanski's crush on Gardenhire revealed: he's one of the least rage-inducing intentional walk managers.

  8. I've long since gotten used to people saying "Scandisk" for Sandisk, "HDM One" for HDMI and "InvisiShield" when they want to buy an Invisible Shield, but come on. "NeckFlix?" Who's propagating that one?

        1. On his verse on "Parachute" by Future, R. Kelly drops this gem:

Your man is like Nextel, soon gone.
Girl, you can always call on me... Apple phone.

I despise the man but that line kills me every time I hear it.

  9. Look at this:

I think New Guy could have some fun with that.

    1. when you have a chance to utiliti-ize an Eduardo Nunez, you just gotta do it, come what may.

  10. My sister is being transferred to a machine that will handle all of her breathing and heart functions, and she's moved to the highest priority for a lung transplant. Continued prayers are appreciated. Having this community means a lot. Thanks.

      1. Even if the NCAA only did it for public relations, it's still an improvement. To paraphrase Milton Friedman on politics, you have to find a way to make the wrong people do the right things.

  11. Antony smiled when Gardenhire’s “laid-back dude” comment was relayed.

“I think whenever you have a player (and) their personality is laid back, when they’re struggling it can be more frustrating,” Antony said. “It’s not for lack of effort, but … somebody who’s more of a fiery guy, they see him struggling, it’s ‘Aw, he’s (ticked) off, he’s working at it, he’s not happy about it either.’

“The laid-back guy might not be any less happy about it than the other guy, but when you look at personalities, sometimes it can be misconstrued as a player not caring or not understanding, and that’s really not the case. It’s just a matter of that’s their personality.”

I was really glad to see this quote. I thought Hicks and Parmelee were both being hurt by their personalities. I know they're being hurt by their patient approaches at the plate. Hicks has an OBP better than Colabello and Sam Fuld, and it's more than 100 points better than Florimon's before he got sent down. He's also reaching base at a better clip than the average No. 9 hitter in the AL. For a guy with great speed and that plays great OF defense on a team bereft of anyone else that is any good at playing the OF, that's quite valuable.
