Minor Details: Games of May 19

Trevor May leads Rochester to victory.  A fine outing for Jose Berrios.  Chad Christensen hits two homers to lead Cedar Rapids.

ROCHESTER 4, TOLEDO 0 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Oswaldo Arcia was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, his fourth.  James Beresford was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching stars:  Trevor May pitched eight innings, giving up four hits and four walks with six strikeouts.  Aaron Thompson struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Hernan Perez was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Justin Miller struck out all three batters he faced.

The game:  Rochester had only one hit in the first three innings,  In the fourth, Chris Rahl and Beresford started the inning with singles and Arcia hit a three-run homer to make it 3-0.  Beresford had an RBI double in the fifth to give the Red Wings a 4-0 lead.  Toledo loaded the bases in the sixth on a two-out triple and two walks.  they loaded the bases again in the eighth on a walk and a pair of two-out singles.  In both cases, however, the Mud Hens could not get the ball out of the infield after that.

Of note:  Rahl was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Josh Willingham was 0-for-3.  Pedro Florimon was 1-for-3.

NEW BRITAIN 10, RICHMOND 6 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Tony Thomas was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring three times and driving in one.  Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer (his third), scoring twice.  Brad Boyer was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.

Pitching star:  Adrian Salcedo struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Mario Lisson was 3-for-5 with a home run (his sixth) and three RBIs.  Ryan Lollis was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Jarrett Parker was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Lisson hit a two-run homer in the first to give Richmond a 2-0 lead.  New Britain came back with four in the third, aided by two errors but also getting two doubles and a triple in an inning.  Kennys Vargas singled in a run in the fourth to make it 5-2, but the Flying Squirrels came back in the sixth with three singles and a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 5-4.  The Rock Cats put the game away with five in the bottom of the sixth.  Two walks, a stolen base, and a wild pitch plated the first run.  Ortiz hit a two-run homer.  Three walks filled the bases, and Boyer singled home the final two runs of the game.

Of note:  Nate Hanson was 0-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.  Vargas was 1-for-3 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.  Starter Tyler Duffey pitched 6.2 innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

DAYTONA 4, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  John Murphy was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, driving in one.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Travis Harrison was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Pitching star: Jose Berrios struck out ten in seven innings, giving up two runs on five hits and three walks.

Opposition stars:  Pin-Chieh Chen was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Willson Contreras was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Yao-Lin Wang pitched five shutout innings, allowing one hit and three walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  A wild pitch allowed Daytona to score one in the first inning.  It stayed 1-0 until the sixth, Harrison delivered a two-out single to tie the score.  Each team scored once in the seventh.  Harrison then made two errors in the eighth inning, giving the Contreras the chance to get a two-run single and put the Cubs ahead 4-2.  Fort Myers got men on first and second with one out in the ninth, but a double play ended the game.

Of note:  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-4.  Dalton Hicks was 0-for-4.  Max Kepler was 0-for-4.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-3 with a double.

CEDAR RAPIDS 6, BELOIT 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Chad Christensen was 4-for-4 with a pair of two runs homers (his first home runs of the season) and three runs.  Ryan Walker was 4-for-5 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in one.  Bryan Haar was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Yorman Landa pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and three walks with one strikeout.  Hudson Boyd struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Tyler Marincov was 2-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer, his fifth.  Ryan Matthews was 1-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once.

The game:  Christensen hit a two-run homer in the first to give Cedar Rapids a 2-0 lead.  Beloit came back with one in the second and Marincov hit a two-run homer in the third to give the Snappers a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the third, Ivory Thomas doubled, Walker tripled, and Christensen hit a two-run homer to give the Kernels a 5-3 advantage.  They added one more in the fifth.  Beloit's biggest threat came in the ninth, when two singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out.  A strikeout and a popup ended the game.

Of note:  Mitch Garver was 1-for-2 with two hit-by-pitches.  Starter Josue Montanez struck out five in five innings, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks.
