Mexican Matchups: Games of October 11

Solo homers make a difference for Hermosillo.  Heras harasses Mexicali.  Salas and Solis help lead Culiacan.

LOS MOCHIS 9, OBREGON 2 IN LOS MOCHIS

Twins:  Corey Wimberly was 0-for-3 with a walk for Obregon.

Obregon:  Carlos Valencia was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Dean Anna was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Mario Mendoza pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two walks with one strikeout.

Los Mochis:  Juan Carlos Gamboa was 2-for-4 with a double and two walks, scoring once and driving in two.  Rodolfo Amador was 1-for-5 with a three-run homer and two runs.  Jonathan Castellanos pitched five innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Los Mochis led 3-1 after three when Amador hit a three-run homer in the fourth to seal the victory.

HERMOSILLO 4, NAVOJOA 3 IN HERMOSILLO

Novojoa:  Jon Weber was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Chris Marrero was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Irving Jimenez struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.

Hermosillo:  Sebastian Elizalde was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk.  Jose Amador was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk.  Juan Pablo Oramas struck out nine in five innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks.

The game:  Hermosillo led 4-1 after five.  Navojoa scored once in the seventh and once in the eighth but did not get the tying run past first base.

JALISCO 4, MEXICALI 2 IN MEXICALI

Jalisco:  Leo Heras was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk.  Jesus Lopez was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Ben Kozlowski struck out six in five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks.

Mexicali:  Brock Peterson was 1-for-4 with a home run.  Mike Jacobs was 2-for-3 with a run.  Edgar Osuna pitched five shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Heras' two-run homer tied it at two in the sixth.  Lopez singled in the go-ahead run in the seventh and Eduardo Arredondo singled in an insurance run in the ninth.

CULIACAN 5, MAZATLAN 2 IN MAZATLAN (11 INNINGS)

Culiacan:  Nick Buss was 4-for-5 with two doubles and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Issmael Salas was 1-for-3 with three walks and two RBIs.  Robert Coello pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.

Mazatlan:  Heber Gomez was 4-for-5.  Stetson Allie was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Jose Contreras struck out seven in five innings, allowing three hits and three walks.

The game:  A bases-loaded walk brought home the go-ahead run in the eleventh, followed by a two-run single by Ali Solis.  Mazatlan loaded the bases with none out in the bottom of the eleventh, but a popup and two strikeouts ended the game.
