Venezuelan View: Games of October 12

Noriega stages a revolt against Aragua.  Big innings carry in La Guaira and Anzoategui.  Twins players do everything they can.

ZULIA 3, MAGALLANES 2 IN ZULIA

Twins:  Ryan O'Rourke retired the only man he faced for Zulia.

Magallanes:  Renny Osuna (Angels) was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 2-for-5 with a double.  Mitch Lively (Washington) pitched 3.1 innings, giving up one run on seven hits but no walks with one strikeout.

Zulia:  Aaron Altherr (Philadelphia) was 1-for-3 with a home run, his second.  Carlos Moncrief (Cleveland) was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Sergio Perez pitched 4.2 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Zulia scored single runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh to go ahead 3-0.  Magallanes got two in the eighth and had men on second and third with none out but could not tie the score.

LARA 5, ARAGUA 3 IN LARA

Twins:  Dubal Baez was used as a pinch-runner and scored for Lara.

Aragua:  Teodoro Martinez (Texas) was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Alex Romero was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Jason Lane (San Diego) pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

Lara:  Jairo Perez (Mets) was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Gabriel Noriega (Seattle) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.  Eduardo Figueroa (Cubs) struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.

The game:  Trailing 2-1 through six, Lara took the lead in the seventh on Noriega's two-run single and got two insurance runs in the eighth to secure the victory.

LA GUAIRA 6, MARGARITA 4 IN LA GUAIRA

Margarita:  Alberto Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Taylor Motter (Tampa Bay) was 1-for-4 with a home run (his second) and a walk, scoring twice.  Casey Lawrence (Toronto) pitched five shutout innings, giving up five hits and two walks with one strikeout.

La Guaira:  Rene Reyes was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Alex Castellanos (San Diego) was 1-for-2 with a grand slam.  Buddy Baumann (Kansas City) struck out four in four innings, allowing one run on one hit and three walks.

The game:  Trailing 2-0, La Guaira scored all of its runs in a six-run sixth.  Reyes hit a two-run homer and Castellanos hit a grand slam in the inning.

ANZOATEGUI 7, CARACAS 5 IN ANZOATEGUI

Caracas:  Luis Antonio Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Ramon Cabrera (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Anzoategui:  Jackson Melian (Houston) was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer.  Rossmel Perez (Cincinnati) was 1-for-3 with a home run.  Austin Fleet (San Francisco) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits.

The game:  Caracas took a 5-1 lead with a five-run fourth, but Anzoategui got the lead back with a five-run fifth.  Melian's three-run homer was the big hit for Anzoategui.
