Fall Festival: Games of October 16

Two Twins relievers throw three shutout innings for Salt River.  Spencer goes Kieboom for Mesa.  The middle innings win it for Surprise.

SALT RIVER 5, GLENDALE 1 IN SALT RIVER

Twins:  Byron Buxton was 0-for-4.  Jake Reed struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up only a walk.  Zack Jones pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Glendale:  Mike Ohlman (Baltimore) was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Corey Seager (Dodgers) was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Robbie Ray (Detroit) struck out five in three shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Salt River:  Andrew Aplin (Houston) was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Ryan Casteel (Colorado) was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Jayson Aquino (Colorado) struck out three in three innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks.

The game:  Salt River scored all their runs in the eighth, turning a 1-0 deficit into a 5-1 victory.

MESA 6, PEORIA 2 IN MESA

Peoria:  Edward Salcedo (Atlanta) was 3-for-4 with a double.  Jacob Wilson (St. Louis) was 3-for-4 with a double.  Tyrell Jenkins (St. Louis) struck out five in four innings, giving up two unearned runs on four hits and a walk.

Mesa:  Spencer Kieboom (Washington) was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and a walk.  Dan Vogelbach (Cubs) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Ivan Pineyro (Cubs) struck out three in three shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks.

The game:  Leading 2-1 after seven and a half, Mesa scored four in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  Jon Berti (Toronto) led off the inning with a home run and Kieboom hit a three-run shot later in the inning.

SURPRISE 7, SCOTTSDALE 3 IN SURPRISE

Scottsdale:  Greg Bird (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with two home runs (his second and third) and three RBIs.  Tom Harlan (Pittsburgh) pitched three innings, giving up two unearned runs on one hit and no walks.

Surprise:  Patrick Kivlehan (Seattle) was 2-for-3 with a home run (his third), a double, and a walk, scoring twice.  Sean Coyle (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Madison Younginer (Boston) pitched a scoreless inning.

The game:  Nick Williams' (Texas) RBI single in the fourth broke a 2-2 tie and a two-run single in the fifth by Kyle Waldrop (Cincinnati) gave Surprise a comfortable lead.
