Venezuelan View: Games of October 18

Aaron Hicks continues to hit well.  Anzoategui runs through its bullpen.  Walks and errors lift Lara.

MARGARITA 3, ZULIA 2 IN MARGARITA

Twins:  Aaron Hicks was 2-for-4 with a run for Margarita.  Ryan O'Rourke pitched one inning for Zulia, giving up one run on two hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Zulia:  Ali Castillo (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Mark Minicozzi (San Francisco) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Sergio Perez pitched 5.1 innings, giving up an unearned run on four hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

Margarita:  Wilfredo Tovar (Mets) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Moises Hernandez (Seattle) pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout.

The game:  Margarita trailed 2-1 after six, but Tovar singled and scored in the seventh to tie it at two.  In the ninth, Hicks singled, went to third on Tovar's double, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Gerson Montilla (Arizona) to win the game.

LA GUAIRA 6, CARACAS 4 IN CARACAS

La Guaira:  Rene Reyes was 3-for-5 with a home run (his second), scoring twice and driving in two.  Miguel Gonzalez (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Jake Thompson (Tampa Bay) struck out four in four innings, giving up no hits and one walk.

Caracas:  Felix Perez (Cincinnati( was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and a double, driving in two.  Henry Alejandro Rodriguez (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Loiger Padron (Cubs) struck out two in 1.2 perfect innings.

The game:  Caracas scored three in the sixth to go ahead 4-3, but La Guaira came back with three in the seventh to take a 6-4 lead that held up.  Gonzalez had a two-run double to put La Guaira ahead.

ARAGUA 5, ANZOATEGUI 1 IN ARAGUA

Anzoategui:  Tomas Perez (Colorado) was 1-for-3 with a double and a run.  Oscar Salazar was 2-for-4.  Jack Snodgrass (San Francisco) pitched 4.1 innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Aragua:  Gustavo Molina (Colorado) was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Teodoro Martinez (Texas) was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Manny Correa (Oakland) pitched six innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  RBI singles by Martinez and Hector Gimenez (Milwaukee) put Aragua up 2-1 in the fifth.  A three-run eighth put the game out of reach.  Anzoategui used eleven pitchers in the game, with five of them facing only one batter.

LARA 11, MAGALLANES 4 IN LARA

Magallanes:  Ronny Cedeno (Arizona) was 1-for-2 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Tomas Telis (Texas) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run.  Kelvi Rojas (Miami) struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Lara:  Paulo Orlando (Kansas City) was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in three.  Carlos Rivero (Boston) was 3-for-6 with a run and two RBIs.  Victor Moreno struck out five in three shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk.

The game:  Leading 5-4, Lara scored four in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  They had only two hits in the inning, both singles, but took advantage of two errors and three walks.
