Fall Festival: Games of October 24

A big day for Byron Buxton.  Winker is opening some eyes.  Mesa loses a big first-inning lead.

SALT RIVER 8, GLENDALE 1 IN GLENDALE

Twins:  Byron Buxton was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jason Adam pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Salt River:  Trevor Story (Colorado) was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two walks, scoring once and driving in four.  Archie Bradley (Arizona) pitched four shutout innings, giving up five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Glendale:  Tyrone Taylor (Milwaukee) was 3-for-4.  Scott Schebler (Dodgers) was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Zach Davies (Baltimore) struck out five in four shutout innings, allowing four hits and a walk.

The game:  It was scoreless through five, but Salt River got one in the sixth, three in the seventh, and four in the eighth.  Story had a two-run double in both the seventh and the eighth.

SURPRISE 2, SCOTTSDALE 1 IN SCOTTSDALE

Surprise:  Deven Marrero (Boston) was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk, scoring once.  Jesse Winker (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring once.  Stephen Landazuri (Seattle) pitched three innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Scottsdale:  L. J. Mazzilli (Mets) was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Dante Bichette, Jr. (Yankees) was 2-for-4.  Tyler Glasnow (Pittsburgh) struck out six in three shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk.

The game:  Winker tripled and scored in the fifth to break a 1-1 tie.

PEORIA 9, MESA 4 IN PEORIA

Mesa:  Dan Vogelbach (Cubs) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Jacob Hannemann (Cubs) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Ryan Doolittle (Oakland) struck out two in two perfect innings.

Peoria:  Jordan Smith (Cleveland) was 3-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Tony Wolters (Cleveland) was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs.  Daniel Stumpf (Kansas City) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Mesa jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first, but Peoria scored five in the second to go into the lead to stay.  Peoria added two in the fourth and two in the sixth.
