Venezuelan View: Games of October 24

Alex Romero leads Aragua to victory.  Two innings were all Anzoategui needed.  Pirela pivots the game for Zulia.

ARAGUA 10, MARGARITA 5 IN ARAGUA

Twins:  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-4 with a run for Aragua.

Margarita:  Manny Pina (Detroit) was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk.  Taylor Motter (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run.  Silfredo Garcia (St. Louis) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one walk with one strikeout.

Aragua:  Teodoro Martinez (Texas) was 3-for-5 with a run and three RBIs.  Ji-Man Choi (Seattle) was 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs.  Ronald Belisario (Dodgers) pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

The game:  Alex Romero's three-run homer capped a six-run fourth that put Aragua up 7-0.  Pina hit a three-run homer in a five-run sixth that cut the lead to 7-5, but Aragua got three more in the seventh, two of them scoring on Martinez' single-plus-error, to re-gain control of the game.

ANZOATEGUI 5, MAGALLANES 2 IN ANZOATEGUI

Magallanes:  Ramon Hernandez was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer.  Tomas Telis (Texas) was 1-for-3 with a double.  Pedro Guerra (Yankees) struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.

Anzoategui:  Brandon Allen (Mets) was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third), a double, and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.  Niuman Romero (Baltimore) was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring once.  Jack Snodgrass (San Francisco) pitched five shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Allen homered to cap a two-run first for Anzoategui.  Oscar Salazar had a two-run single in a three-run fifth to make it 5-0.  Hernandez hit his two-run homer in the eighth.

ZULIA 7, LA GUAIRA 3 IN ZULIA

La Guaira:  Cesar Suarez was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his second.  Odubel Herrera (Texas) was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Buddy Baumann (Kansas City) pitched three innings, giving up one run on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Zulia:  Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, scoring twice.  Freddy Galvis (Philadelphia) was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.  Marcos Tabata (Mets) struck out four in 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

The game:  La Guaira led 3-1 after four, but a Galvis RBI single and Pirela's two-run homer made it 4-3 after five.  Zulia added two in the sixth and one in the seventh.

CARACAS 7, LARA 1 IN CARACAS

Lara:  Maikol Gonzalez (Angels) was 0-for-2 with three walks and a run.  Raul Padron was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Luis Vizcaino pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Caracas:  Josh Whitesell was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Jesus Aguilar (Cleveland) was 1-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Albert Suarez (Tampa Bay) pitched five innings, allowing three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Caracas opened the second with four hits, scoring three times to take a 3-0 lead.  They added four in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
