Dominican Digest: Games of October 29

Errors make things dicey for Licey.  A comeback falls short for Oriente.  Twins in every game.

CIBAO 4, LICEY 2 IN LICEY

TwinsChris Parmelee was 1-for-5 with an RBI for Licey.  Jeremias Pineda was used on defense for Cibao but did not bat.

Cibao:  Xavier Scruggs (St. Louis) was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two.  Wilson Betemit (Tampa Bay) was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Scott Alexander (Kansas City) struck out four in 2.1 innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Licey:  Mel Rojas (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Elmer Reyes (Atlanta) was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Francisco Rosario (Philadelphia) pitched two shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk with one strikeout.

The game:  Two errors on the same play put Cibao ahead 3-2 in the third.  Scruggs doubled in a run later in the same inning.  Licey got the tying run on base in the seventh and again in the ninth.

ESCOGIDO 6, ORIENTE 4 IN ORIENTE

TwinsDeibinson Romero was 0-for-4.

Escogido:  Jordan Pacheco (Arizona) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Melky Mesa (Toronto) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.  Stephen Kohlscheen (San Diego) pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Oriente:  Gustavo Nunez (Atlanta) was 3-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Austin Wates (Miami) was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Edgar Garcia (Philadelphia) pitched two perfect innings, striking out five of the six batters he faced.

The game:  Mesa's two-run double highlighted a four-run third that put Escogido ahead 5-0.  It was 6-0 after five, but Oriente got back into the game with a four-run sixth.  They had the bases loaded with two out, but a ground out ended the inning and Oriente did not threaten again.

AGUILAS 4, ESTE 1 IN AGUILAS

TwinsWilkin Ramirez was 0-for-4.

Este:  Matt Hague (Toronto) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Eugenio Velez (Milwaukee) was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Claudio Vargas pitched 3.1 innings, giving up only one run despite seven hits and three walks.

Aguilas:  Mark Canha (Miami) was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer.  Zoilo Almonte (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with two runs.  Liam Hendriks (Kansas City) struck out seven in five shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks.

The game:  Canha's three-run homer in the fifth put Aguilas in front 4-0.  Este had the tying run up to bat with two out in the sixth and again with two out in the ninth.
