Mexican Matchups: Games of October 29

Aldazaba gets all As for Navojoa.  A big day for Japhet Amador lifts Jalisco.  A big day by Eric Farris is not enough for Culiacan.

NAVOJOA 6, CULIACAN 4 IN NAVOJOA

TwinsEric Farris was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs for Culiacan.

Culiacan:  Jorge Vazquez was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fifth.  Oscar Villarreal pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout.

Navojoa:  Eliseo Aldazaba was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jose Guadalupe Chavez was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Salvador Robles pitched six innings, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

The game:  With the score tied at two, Navojoa scored four in the sixth.  Fernando Flores singled in the go-ahead run and Aldazaba had a two-run double in the inning.  Culiacan scored single runs in the seventh and ninth and had the tying run on base with none out in the ninth.

JALISCO 11, OBREGON 4 IN JALISCO

TwinsCorey Wimberly was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.

Obregon:  Agustin Murillo was 3-for-5 with a three-run homer, his third.  Jake Smolinski (Texas) was 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Angel Adrian Ramirez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Jalisco:  Japhet Amador was 2-for-5 with two two-run homers, his second and third.  Marquez Smith (Cincinnati) was 2-for-3 with a triple and two walks, scoring four times.  Manuel Flores pitched a scoreless inning, allowing no hits and no walks.

The game:  Jalisco scored four in the first but led only 5-4 going to the bottom of the fifth.  Jalisco scored four more in that inning to take control.  Amador and Cory Vaughn (Mets) each had a two-run homer in that inning.

MEXICALI 3, HERMOSILLO 1 IN HERMOSILLO

Mexicali:  Mike Jacobs (Arizona) was 1-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk, scoring twice.  Shane Peterson (Oakland) was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Javier Solano (Dodgers) pitched six innings, giving up one run on seven hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

Hermosillo:  Justin Greene (Arizona) was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Jerry Owens was 2-for-5.  James Gillheeney (Seattle) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Jacobs homered in the second and Mexicali went on to score single runs in the fourth and seventh.  The lone Hermosillo run scored in the seventh.  Hermosillo had men on second and third with one out in the eighth but could not score.

MAZATLAN 4, LOS MOCHIS 0 IN MAZATLAN

Los Mochis:  Rodolfo Amador was 1-for-2 with a double.  Julian Arballo (Yankees) struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Mazatlan:  Heber Gomez was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Jesus Castillo was 0-for-1 with three walks and a run.  Walter Silva pitched seven shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Gomez' two-run single put Mazatlan ahead 3-0 in the fifth.  The best Los Mochis scoring chance came in the fifth, when Amador was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second on a single.
