Puerto Rican Perambulation: Games of October 31

RBI doubles and strong pitching carry Mayaguez.  One at-bat makes the difference in Carolina.

MAYAGUEZ 3, CAGUAS 2 IN CAGUAS

Twins:  Daniel Ortiz was 1-for-5.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-4.  Both play for Mayaguez.

Mayaguez:  Roberto Perez (Cleveland) was 3-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Noel Cuevas (Dodgers) was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Kanekoa Texeira (Atlanta) retired all five men he faced, striking out one.

Caguas:  Carlos Rivera was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk, driving in one.  Trever Adams (Texas) was 3-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Michael Nix (San Diego) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and a walk.

The game:  Mayaguez trailed 2-1 after three, but RBI doubles by Perez and Cuevas in the fourth put them up 3-2.  Caguas did not score after the second inning despite putting a man on third in the fourth and the fifth.

SANTURCE 2, CAROLINA 0 IN CAROLINA

Santurce:  Yadiel Rivera (Milwaukee) was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.  Jorge Martinez pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Carolina:  Hector Santiago (Angels) pitched five innings, allowing two runs on two hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Rivera hit a two-run homer with two out in the fifth for the only runs of the game.  Carolina only once got a man to third base, with two outs in the sixth, but their last eleven batters were retired.
