  1. If the Twins sign Torii, I am jumping on the "Fire Terry Ryan" bandwagon.

The focus should be on getting Buxton, Arcia, and Hicks in the outfield by the end of this season. And DH is taken.

    1. Agreed. The Twins already have veteran leadership despite the media trying to potray otherwise.

      1. Is this actually a rumored thing? Or is it just a way for i-i to get himself some free press from wishcasting sports mediots like Souhan?

        1. Its being spread by Darren Wolfson on the Twitters. According to him, the Twins NEED someone like him on the roster. Its safe to say I don't agree with that.

          1. Up until now I was under the impression that Wolfson was intelligent. Unless he's really trolling serious Twins fans, I'm reevaluating that opinion.

    2. It might be a ploy to sell tickets, which will probably work. The casual Minnesota fan only saw the beginning of his decline and has no idea how little he can offer the team at this point.

    3. That would suck.

Apropos of nothing, after watching KC get to the World Series my dad's only lesson was that "The Twins should hire a manager who calls for more bunts."

      Ugh.

      1. I was thrilled he got a QO since I knew that crossed him off the offseason shopping list.

If the Twins were going to sign an aging corner outfielder, my preference was Markakis but it sounds like he'll be re-signing with the Birds.

    4. I can just hear Dick Bremer ooohing and aahing over every play that Hunter makes even though:

Fangraphs rated him as easily the worst rightfielder in the league in 2014.

I can hear it in my mind, but I won't actually hear it. I don't think I watched 5 innings of Twins baseball last year and that'll probably be the pattern again in 2015 if this is the biggest off-season splash.

      1. StatCast data on Hunter for next year will be interesting. Twins fans know all to well that i-i didn't adjust well to losing a few steps after his leg injury, but I'm also curious about his route efficiency.

    5. Well, the positive side would be if he stinks then the Twins could provide the embarrassment of him being cut by a bad team or, even better, Mauer being forced to move to LF so Vargas can move to 1B, so Hunter can move to DH.

  2. OMG. Make it stop. The phone has been ringing off the hook asking me to vote. I have noticed that the other team has called me about twice as often.

Today's call asked me to vote for their Congresscritter and Senate candidate. No mention of the Governor. I wonder if this is because they think that's lost or if this is just a congressional call (i.e. outside money focused only on U.S. Congress).

Anyhow, I can only imagine what 2016 will be like. The good news for us Minnesotans is no governor race and no senate race, so maybe not as many calls.

I did vote this morning at 7:17. No line, voting booths open. 48th in my precinct. Total time from the moment I stepped out of my car until I got back in: 4 minutes.

    1. Next Senate race is 2018. Of course, the senior senator really wants to be on the ballot in 2016.

      1. Yeah, having just a cell phone is great for that. I also voted about three weeks ago, so I just do my best to ignore everything.

    2. Impossibly, my home phone - usually a big target for telemarketers - has been dead quiet today.

Election Day doesn't see a lot of huge pushes here anyway. We know which party is going to win damn near everything, so the primaries are a bigger deal.

    3. Some billionaire brothers bought almost all the advertising time on youtube in Louisiana. I found the vitriol amusing while waiting for NPR videos to load.

      1. Also 4 billion dollars has been bandied about as the total amount spent on campaigning this cycle. Think of the good work 4 billion dollars could have done in fixing some of the problems advertised as failures of leadership. I'm find myself ashamed of my country in times like these.

  3. I don't know how to phrase this without a five paragraph rant, but this job would be easier if it weren't for the fucking people (those people not being my clients).

  4. So, things I learned today. If you resign from your job but make an unsubstantiated claim that the stress of working for your boss made you sick and forced you to resign, you can get unemployment benefits.

  5. AL ROY finalists:
    1b J. Abreu (CWS): 5.5 rWAR, 5.3 fWAR
RP D. Betances (NYY): 3.5 rWAR, 3.2 fWAR
SP M. Shoemaker (LAA): 2.8 rWAR, 2.1 fWAR

    Not AL ROY finalists:
    CF/SS D. Santana (MN): 3.9 rWAR, 3.2 fWAR
    RF/CF K. Kiermaier (TB): 3.7 rWAR, 3.8 fWAR

Abreu obviously deserves the award, but at least one of those other two finalists don't belong.

  6. I know its Abreu's to lose, but to not finish in the Top 3 voting stinks.

    Rhett Bollinger ‏@RhettBollinger
Danny Santana not among the three finalists for AL Rookie of the Year. It's Jose Abreu, Matt Shoemaker and Dellin Betances.

  7. I'm looking at moving again come August or so, and I thought I'd plan a head a bit (my, how I'm growing) and start saving properly. My savings account has a return of 0.20%, or I can get a 6-month CD with a 0.25% return, minimum $1,000 to open & balance. Are their any better short term investment options, or am I best off keeping it in my savings acct. and have the liquidity in exchange for the 0.05% on a deposit that will likely be somewhere in the $2-2,500 range?

    1. I think that, if you know you'll need that money for moving a cd could be a good choice just to make sure you have that money for the move.

Also, I recommend Madison. Then you could live in a kick ass city and still curl (and probably do it more often than where you are now)

      1. Madison: Fantastic library system.* World-class local beer. Surprisingly diverse cultural opportunities. I concur.

        * Especially if you get university library access.

    2. We have an interest bearing checking account that gives something like 2% (I forget exactly where we're at now)? Kasasa. Highly recommend.

    3. I am thinking that you do not want to tie up your savings. You don't have enough liquid assets to weather an emergency to worry about gaining an extra few cents in interest.

  8. By the way, I am really excited that Molly is coming here to win. Such a refreshing change from the old manager.
